Description

At the Language Centre, there are approximately 180 mother tongue teachers who together teach in more than 70 languages. We provide mother tongue instruction and study guidance to approximately 12,000 children and students in primary and upper secondary schools throughout Gothenburg and its surrounding municipalities.

Job Responsibilities

The Language Centre is now looking for a mother tongue teacher in Igbo. This is a fixed-term position with a scope of 20%.

As a mother tongue teacher, you develop the student's language skills by using varied working methods and teaching strategies. You actively use digital tools in a way that benefits the student's learning.

Organizationally, you belong to the Language Centre, but most of your time is spent working at the school(s) where you have assignments. The role requires collaboration with the principal and staff at these schools. Your direct supervisor is one of the unit managers at the Language Centre.

The culture at the Language Centre is characterized by commitment, collaboration, and a development-oriented approach. One morning a week, you meet your colleagues at the Language Centre in working groups or language groups, where you work based on identified development needs. You receive support, inspiration, and ideas from your manager and your colleagues at the Language Centre.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who are qualified and certified as a mother tongue teacher in Igbo and/or a certified teacher with at least 30 higher education credits in Igbo, where your language skills in Igbo correspond to a native level.

You have good didactic knowledge of the subject language and good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written. Since digital tools are to be used actively and thoughtfully in teaching, you must have good digital competence. It is desirable that you have experience from pedagogical work in Swedish schools.

You are well-versed in and understand the importance of working based on the Swedish school's steering documents. Since mother tongue teachers meet groups of students daily where there is variation in both knowledge and age, you need to be flexible in your pedagogical approach. Your attitude towards children and young people is characterized by sensitivity and encouragement. You motivate the young people you meet and give them strength and belief in themselves.

In meetings with school staff, you are collaborative and solution-oriented while being clear about what your role as a mother tongue teacher entails. As a colleague, it is natural for you to share ideas and experiences and to develop the Language Centre as a whole.
