University Library and Student Support (UB) is responsible for providing library services, learning support, and student support. Learning support involves fostering information competence in education and offering an inspiring study environment. Student support includes assistance with academic writing, mathematics, statistics, study skills, information retrieval, and reference management. The department also handles central study guidance, pedagogical support for students with long-term disabilities, and student health services.
University Library and Student Support manages a project using the Supplemental Instruction (SI) method at Mid Sweden University. Supplemental Instruction means that trained SI-leaders hold regular study sessions for students in specific courses. These sessions focus on developing effective study techniques, improving understanding of course content, and boosting confidence before exams. UB staff train the SI-leaders, coordinate the work, and act as mentors to the SI-leaders.
We are now looking for 1–2 SI-leaders for the Bachelor's Programme in Public Health Science for a part-time position at UB.
Responsibilities
We are looking for you who want to train as an SI-leader and prepare and lead study sessions for the Bachelor's Programme in Public Health Science remotely. As an SI-leader, you plan and lead approximately one session per week for 1–2 hours with a group of about 5–15 students. You will report attendance and participate in mentoring meetings. The role also involves participating in development and evaluation work.
Qualifications
You are studying at the Bachelor's Programme in Public Health Science at Mid Sweden University and have completed at least the second semester with passing grades in all courses. You are interested in pedagogy and supporting other students in their learning. You wish to develop your leadership skills. Since the sessions are held remotely via Teams or Zoom, you should be proficient in using digital tools.
You will be employed as a student assistant (amanuens). According to Mid Sweden University's employment regulations, you are eligible for employment as a student assistant if you are admitted to education at the first-cycle or second-cycle level.
Personal Qualities
To succeed in this role, we see that you are relationship-building, proactive, and independent. You have good collaboration skills, communicate actively, and work constructively with others. Furthermore, you are structured, organized, and capable of planning and prioritizing your work effectively. Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities.
Processing
The processing of the employment follows the forms specified in Chapter 5 of the Higher Education Ordinance and proceeds in accordance with Mid Sweden University's employment regulations.
Employment and Start Date
The employment covers 7.5–15% of full time (3–6 hours per week) starting from 2026-09-01 or as agreed. The working hours are largely flexible, but the shifts for the study group must be scheduled at times outside the participants' scheduled lectures. The assignment is determined term by term, but no later than 2027-01-31. The employment may be renewed in accordance with Chapter 5, Section 12 of the Higher Education Ordinance (1993:100).
Place of Work: Sundsvall (work is performed remotely).
