Västergötlands Museum is an attractive visitor destination and a well-known cultural institution in West Sweden and nationally. With one of Sweden's richest collections of artifacts, around 40 buildings, extensive green areas, and a museum farm, the museum offers a unique combination of cultural heritage, nature, and research.
Västergötlands Museum is an independent foundation with the purpose of conducting and promoting cultural heritage conservation and museum activities, as well as other cultural activities in the Skaraborg region. Collaborating with representatives of the state cultural heritage administration within the county and managing the foundation's collections, buildings, land areas, and other assets are also part of the museum's mission.

We are now looking for you who want to become our new Curator of Collections (Föremålsantikvarie).
Job Description
The position is located at the museum's Collections Unit, which is responsible for the museum's storage, accession catalog, collection databases, and preventive conservation. The unit includes a conservator, an archaeologist, an archivist, and four museum assistants.
As a Curator of Collections with us, you will have overall responsibility for the management and development of the collections and will serve as the coordinator and contact person for the artifact unit. The role involves both operational and strategic tasks. The work can be physically demanding as heavy lifting may occur.
The duties include among other things:
- making the collections accessible for study visits from schools, associations, and researchers
- providing internal and external service in antiquarian matters
- handling and moving artifacts as needed
- administering loans and determining insurance values
- working actively in the museum's collection management system, Primus
- participate in and drive projects related to collection management and digitization
- activate the collections through exhibitions, program activities, and collaborations
- establish, coordinate, and implement routines, action plans, policy documents, and acquisition strategies
- coordinate work within the artifact collections, including planning, follow-up, and development of operations
- collaborate with other units within the museum
- participate in the museum's management group and contribute to the museum's strategic development in close collaboration with the museum director and other unit managers
Qualifications
We are looking for you who have an academic degree with a focus on cultural history or other education relevant to the position, such as Curator of Collections. You have theoretical knowledge and documented practical experience in working with cultural historical collections, including artifact handling, collection management, exhibition work, and databases.
It is meritorious if you have had coordinating or leading tasks previously, including personnel responsibility. It is an advantage if you have experience working in the Primus database. We operate in an agricultural area and large parts of the collections relate to this. Therefore, it is meritorious if you have knowledge in agricultural history.
You express yourself well in speech and writing in Swedish. A B driving license is a requirement.
As a person, you are structured, responsible, and have a good sense of order. You work independently towards set goals but also thrive in collaboration with others. You have a development-oriented approach, are communicative, and contribute with engagement and a holistic perspective.
