Habilitering & Hälsa Interpreting is currently seeking a sign language interpreter based in Gothenburg.

The interpreting service caters to deaf individuals, people with deafblindness, those with hearing impairments, and individuals with disabilities affecting voice, speech, or language. Our services also extend to people interacting with these groups. We offer everyday interpreting services throughout the Region Västra Götaland, available 24/7, 365 days a year. Our aim is to facilitate communication based on the user's needs through various interpreting methods, delivered with high accessibility and broad competence. Our staff includes sign language interpreters, deafblind interpreters, scribes/adult deaf interpreters, speech support interpreters, and administrative personnel.

Responsibilities

As a sign language interpreter, you interpret between sign language and spoken Swedish between hearing and deaf individuals. You will also interpret for individuals with combined visual and hearing impairments, using visual or tactile sign language depending on the individual's remaining vision or hearing.

You will handle a wide variety of everyday interpreting assignments primarily within healthcare, working life, and leisure sectors. Your task is to facilitate communication professionally. You will work according to the ethical, professional, and quality standards of the interpreting profession, representing the Interpreting Service of the Region Västra Götaland. You must adhere to the professional ethical rules and value statements applicable within the service.

In addition to providing interpreting services, you are expected to be engaged and involved in the development of the Interpreting Service. You will have opportunities to develop your skills alongside your interpreting colleagues.

We work with digital services, and you will perform interpreting assignments remotely. Assignments are spread widely across Västra Götaland, involving travel. The role includes scheduling for day and evening shifts, as well as on-call duties.

Qualifications

A requirement is that you hold a certified sign language interpreter education. Experience working in a politically governed organization and within the Interpreting Service is considered an asset.

Personal suitability is highly valued. In this role, you will meet many different people, requiring excellent teamwork skills, a professional and respectful approach, and high sensitivity. You must be able to work in a person-centered manner and adapt your approach to the individual's needs.

We are looking for someone who can work independently and is highly flexible. You are reflective, considerate of others' needs, and able to both give space to others and share your knowledge constructively. Since you often work alone on assignments, you must be able to make independent decisions and sound judgments in various situations.

Interest in IT and knowledge or practical experience in digital interpreting are viewed positively. You should have strong computer skills and be proficient in the Office package.

A valid driver's license (Category B) is required due to travel involved in the role.
