to apply for the job
We are now looking for a postdoc in the field of "Nanocellulose, Wood, and Biocomposites" located at the Laboratory of Organic Electronics, Department of Science and Technology, Campus Norrköping.
Subject Area
Cellulose fibrils (nanocellulose) are unique building blocks for new biocomposites, combining nano-dimensions with excellent mechanical properties. Biocomposites (including wood) can acquire new functions through chemical modification or the addition of other molecules or nanoparticles. Combined with their mechanical properties, multifunctional cellulose materials can contribute significantly to sustainable development. Active research in the field includes material design of multifunctional biocomposites, new polymers via in-situ polymerization, chemical modification of cellulose, process-structure relationships in colloidal systems, new biocomposites through nanostructuring, high-resolution structural characterization, structure-property relationships in new composites, and organic electronic material systems.
Your Responsibilities
A postdoc is primarily engaged in research. Teaching may also be included in the duties, but no more than one-fifth of the working time.
The project focuses on transparent wood or cellulose composites that combine mechanical performance, recyclability, and optical properties. Professor Lars Berglund leads the project. The materials are based on nanocellulose, wood fibers, and/or wood. A central research question for transparent composites is how controlled nanostructure affects physical properties. Previous research has covered a broad area related to polymer synthesis, controlled nanostructure, chemical recycling/sustainability, mechanical, and optical properties. Challenges include improved composite processing, reduced light scattering, new optical and/or mechanical functions, and improved polymer matrices. Depending on the strongest candidate's competence and interest, specific goals will be selected from the mentioned challenges. The work includes planning, execution, and analysis of experiments, as well as discussion.
Your Qualifications
To be eligible for employment as a postdoc, you must have completed a doctoral degree or have a foreign degree assessed as equivalent to a doctoral degree. Your degree must be completed no later than the time the employment decision is made.
It is meritorious if your degree was completed no more than three years before the last day of application for this position. If there are special reasons, it may be considered as a doctoral degree completed earlier, for example, in the case of various types of statutory leave.
For this position, a doctoral degree in polymer science, composite materials, wood and pulp science, materials science, or a related field is required. Furthermore, strong experimental skills related to material preparation/synthesis and characterization of structure and properties are required. As a person, you are independent and ambitious with good communication and collaboration skills. Good knowledge of English is expected.
Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities and suitability.
Your Workplace
You will work at the Laboratory of Organic Electronics under the leadership of Professor Lars A. Berglund. You can read more about the workplace here: Laboratory of Organic Electronics (https://liu.se/en/research/laboratory-of-organic-electronics).
