Lund University was founded in 1666 and is consistently ranked among the world's leading universities. We have approximately 46,000 students and 8,500 employees in Lund, Helsingborg, and Malmö. We are united in our strive to understand, explain, and improve our world and the conditions of human life.
Workplace Description
The research group Neural Stem Cells conducts research on iPSC-derived cellular models of the human brain to study neurodevelopment in health and disease. We use reprogramming, iPSC, and neural differentiation to create, establish, and expand 2D neuroepithelial stem cell systems as well as 3D organoids from iPSCs derived from healthy controls or patients, or from CRISPR-edited iPSCs. The group is international and comprises staff within research, administration, and technical roles, led by Professor Anna Falk. As a workplace, we value a good working environment characterized by respect and consideration in our relationships with one another. The group is located at the Biomedical Centre in Lund.

Tasks and Responsibilities
As a doctoral student within the visi-on-brain doctoral program in our research group, you are responsible for designing and generating data, analyzing results, and reporting on scientific projects both in writing and orally, in collaboration with the research group leader and other group members. The tasks primarily involve the establishment, cultivation, characterization, differentiation, and study of iPSC-derived (induced pluripotent stem cells) models of the human brain in 2D and 3D, including downstream characterization of cell identity, cell function, and network formation.
The tasks also include administrative duties and collaboration with other disciplines. You will use methods within cell and molecular biology, bioinformatics, advanced cell culture, RT-PCR, immunostaining, microscopy, flow cytometry, analysis of single-cell and bulk omics sequencing data, as well as mathematical modeling.
Other common tasks within the research group may also be relevant, such as participation in other projects within the group, administration, conference travel, presentation of research results, and supervision of students. As a doctoral student within a Marie Curie doctoral network, you will be integrated into visi-on-brain and link your project closely to other projects within this European network, as well as to a traineeship at a company.
