We are now looking for a certified special needs teacher/teacher of Swedish and English for the central special education group Hugin.

Job Responsibilities

The assignment primarily consists of pedagogical work with students, individually and in groups, in close collaboration with the work team, consisting of teachers and resource persons. Mentoring students is also part of the job responsibilities.

You need to be able to share responsibility for the students' daily lives, the development of the work group, and the organization's role as a special resource within the education administration. A willingness to participate in and contribute to joint training and regular supervision is required, as well as a willingness and ability to collaborate closely with colleagues, students, guardians, home schools, and external partners.

Working with children and young people with NPD (Neurodevelopmental Disorders) whose behaviors challenge the environment places high demands on engagement, empathy, approach, collaboration, and endurance. One needs to have knowledge of disabilities but above all knowledge of how to meet, motivate, and communicate with the specific student. Low-affective approach (LAB), a clarifying pedagogy with visual support, and Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) are the foundation of our work. A non-hierarchical work climate is also required to continuously monitor and review work and relational approaches to design effective support. Continuous support through supervision, both in groups and individually, is provided by the central child and student health service.

The assignment includes developing the operations together with colleagues and the unit manager for Hugin.

Requirements for the position:

  • Certified primary school teacher in Swedish and English

Merits for the position:

  • Experience working with different ages in primary school
  • Knowledge and experience regarding neuropsychiatric disabilities (NPD) and low-affective approach

Personal Attributes:

We are looking for a certified special needs teacher/teacher with the knowledge, willingness, and ambition to continue developing Hugin together with existing staff. As a person, you have the ability and willingness to work in a team, are secure and stable, you have warmth and humor, are relationship-building, and have faith that children do the right thing if they can. Flexibility with the child's best interests in focus permeates your work. A B-class driver's license is required.

Great importance is attached to personal suitability!

About the workplace:

Karlshamn Municipality operates a Central Special Education Group for students in primary school with extraordinary needs for special support. The operations are divided into three parts, all located in Asarum. The goal is to offer special competence in adapted learning environments for students from the municipality's municipal primary schools.

Collaboration with the home schools where the students belong to their classes is sought, and a student placement at Hugin can vary in duration and extent.

The student's principal retains legal responsibility for formal decisions regarding schooling. The purpose of Hugin's work is to create conditions for students to develop knowledge, values, and skills through individually designed adaptations. The framework for the work is the school's governing documents: The Curriculum for the Compulsory School (LGR 22), the Swedish National Agency for Education's general recommendations, and the Education Act. The design of the teaching requires individual adaptations based on each student's needs and prerequisites.
