Department of Medicine, Dermatology and Rheumatology
We are Akademiska Sjukhuset – one of Sweden's leading university hospitals. As a county hospital and provider of highly specialized care, we offer healthcare to two million people in Central Sweden. Something is always happening here – a new life is born, a grandmother undergoes surgery, a colleague is hailed as a hero. Here, you will experience both tough trials and fantastic events, within a strong community of colleagues. We welcome your application!
Our Operations
AVA is one of Akademiska Sjukhuset's largest wards, with 30 beds. Here, you will become part of a tightly knit team consisting of nurses, assistant nurses, doctors, pharmacists, and other vital health professions, all committed to delivering the highest quality of care.
The department always strives to maintain high medical competence and a high standard of nursing care. At AVA, there are specialist functions such as an education nurse and a discharge nurse, which provide you as an employee with optimal conditions to perform your duties with high quality. Our success is built on our collective experience and the diversity of ideas and solutions, and we prioritize the employees' working environment.
At AVA, we primarily care for patients with internal medicine diagnoses. Patients come to us with chest pain, heart arrhythmias, heart failure, infections, poisonings, diabetes, pulmonary embolisms, and venous thromboses. Many of our patients are multi-morbid and require significant care efforts. The length of stay is relatively short, meaning a high influx and outflow of patients that must be planned and coordinated. This high flow places high demands on flexibility, initiative, and decisiveness.
We value that you as a nurse get the opportunity to be challenged and develop in your role, which is why we invest in continuous education and individual competence development. We strive to create a present and coaching leadership with the goal that you feel secure, welcome, and comfortable in your new work environment. Here, you are offered a comprehensive introduction, clinical supervision, and regular follow-ups with your nearest manager. This enables you to get into the work quickly while your manager can support your development. Additionally, regular study days are included for all employees throughout the year. We also offer internal training such as telemetry training and arterial gas training, which gives you time and space to deepen your knowledge and competencies.
Your Role
As a nurse with us at AVA, you work with specific nursing care and treatment of the acutely ill patient. We work in teams consisting of a nurse and an assistant nurse, always in close collaboration with doctors and other vital professions. Together, we take responsibility for the acute care of the patient.
Your Qualifications
We are looking for you who are a licensed nurse. We are looking for both you who are newly graduated with an interest in internal medicine care and you who are an experienced nurse, preferably with a background in emergency care or similar. Previous experience with telemetry monitoring is also meritorious. We would prefer if you were a specialist nurse in emergency care or intensive care.
Your Competencies
We see that you:
- are goal-oriented, positive, flexible, confident in your role, and enjoy challenges
- are decisive and easily adapt to acute situations
- are accommodating, enjoy working in a team, and want to constantly improve and develop care for the patients on the ward
- put the patient at the center, are responsible, and motivated in your work
- have the ability to share your knowledge with the team as well as with students and new colleagues
What We Offer
We offer permanent employment at 100%, with rotational shifts.
As a newly graduated nurse, you will participate in a Clinical Development Year (KUÅ) at 20% which begins during your first year.
We look forward to your application!

Region Uppsala mobilizes all permanent staff based on the needs of the total defense. This means no obligations for the individual employee in peacetime, but is solely a planning measure.
Before a decision on employment, a check of the suspicion and criminal records is conducted for all job seekers who in the sought position may come to work within psychiatric care, habilitation, care of children and youth, or compulsory care of addicts, areas covered by facultative record extracts. This thus applies to all who will work close to patients, even if the tasks at present are not intended to mainly contain work with the aforementioned patient groups.
