Department of Surgery and Urology
We are Akademiska sjukhuset – one of Sweden's leading university hospitals. As a county hospital and provider of highly specialized care, we offer healthcare to two million people in Central Sweden. Something is always happening here – a new life is born, a grandmother undergoes surgery, a colleague is hailed as a hero. With us, you will experience both tough challenges and fantastic events, within a strong community of colleagues. We welcome your application!
Are you a nurse with an interest in surgical care?
Do you want to work in a workplace with a strong focus on nursing care, where you can make a real difference for patients? Then ward 70D might be the right place for you!
Our Operations
The Department of Surgery/Urology comprises three surgical and one urological care wards, as well as five clinics where we provide advanced surgical and urological care. We are a research-intensive clinic with close collaboration with Uppsala University, where education and continuous competence development are a natural part of our work – all to ensure that you, as an employee, feel secure and have the opportunity to grow in your professional role.
On surgical ward 70D, we provide highly specialized care in colorectal, endocrine, and emergency surgery. Our patients come to us for both planned (elective) and emergency surgeries. We are proud to be one of four hospitals in the country authorized to provide National Highly Specialized Care (NHV) with HIPEC for patients with disseminated peritoneal cancer as well as endocrine abdominal tumors. Patients from the emergency section arrive with acute conditions requiring surgical treatment. Common diagnoses may include cholecystitis, pancreatitis, ileus, or bleeding from the gastrointestinal tract, as well as trauma in the form of falls, traffic accidents, etc. Patients are admitted via the emergency department or as direct admissions from other hospitals. The combination of elective and emergency surgery creates a dynamic and educational work environment where no two days are alike.
Your Role
As a nurse on ward 70D, you will have the opportunity to work in a competent and engaged team consisting of nurses, nursing assistants, doctors, pharmacists, and other health professionals. We work together with the patient at the center, using the Fundamentals of Care framework as the basis for our person-centered approach.
On our ward, specialist-trained nurses work who have advanced competence in supervision and the surgical patient. They spend part of their working time on, among other things, introduction, education, and clinical supervision of newly hired nurses so that you get a secure and good start with us. As a newcomer to the role, you will work with advanced surgical care under clinical supervision by experienced colleagues. You will gain broad basic competence in surgery and emergency care while simultaneously having the opportunity to develop within a specific area. We offer the possibility of paid specialist education in surgical care if you wish to deepen your knowledge regarding the surgical patient.
With us, you will:
- Work with both emergency and planned surgery
- Meet patients from the age of 15 with different backgrounds and care needs
- Develop your competence in areas such as postoperative pain management, wound and drain care, fluid balance, and nutrition
- Be part of a strong team with specialist nurses, clinical nursing leaders, and section-in-charge nurses who drive development forward
We Are Looking For
We are looking for you who are a licensed nurse – whether you are a recent graduate or have previous experience. You have a genuine interest in surgical care and thrive with a person-centered approach. You are responsible, structured, and confident in leading, planning, and prioritizing your work. You contribute to good collaboration within the team and show respect and sensitivity in interactions with colleagues and patients. Personal suitability is given great importance.
We Offer
We value a secure start – therefore, we offer:
- A well-structured five-week introduction program for you who are new to the profession
- An individualized introduction for you with previous experience
- Clinical supervision by experienced colleagues and specialist nurses
- A mentor during your first year as a new professional
