Do you want to contribute to strengthening the Swedish Armed Forces' logistical capacity by adding a clear military perspective to a workforce primarily consisting of civilian employees? We are now looking for a Deputy Head of the Care Provider Department – a key role with significant influence in a unit undergoing major expansion.

Defence Medical Centre

The Defence Medical Centre (FömedC) is the Swedish Armed Forces' centre for the defence medicine function, located in Gothenburg. FömedC consists of a leadership team with staff, the Swedish Armed Forces' Combat School for Defence Medicine (FSS), the Functional Unit (FunkE), and the Hospital Battalion (Sjhbat).

The Functional Unit comprises officers and civilian specialists, including doctors and nurses. FunkE consists of three departments: the Care Provider Department, the Development Department, and the Medical Personnel Supply Department. Our mission is to develop and support wartime units, and to support Swedish Defence Health with guidelines for safe and secure healthcare. FunkE also conducts development and supply of medical equipment and pharmaceuticals, as well as research within the field of defence medicine.

About the Position

As Deputy Department Head, you are the Department Head's closest support and substitute. You play a central role in the planning, implementation, and follow-up of the department's operations. The position involves both operational and administrative responsibility and requires strong collaboration skills with other parts of the Functional Unit.

You ensure that the department works systematically and maintains high quality in its work. You must also be prepared to participate in the Functional Unit's leadership and staff services.

Main Responsibilities:

As Deputy Department Head, you are the Department Head's closest support in leading, following up on, and developing the unit's work, while seamlessly stepping in as the Department Head's substitute when required. In your role, you are specifically responsible for:

  • Being prepared to represent the Department Head in internal and external contexts as needed.
  • Adding and anchoring a holistic perspective in the unit's development, particularly related to the wartime organization, the needs of the military regions, and operational effectiveness.
  • Communicating and representing the Care Provider Department (VGA) in an environment with primarily civilian colleagues – in a clear, direct, and professional manner.
  • Ensuring understanding of the military mission within VGA and contributing to operational development with a focus on execution capability.
  • Following up on results, identifying areas for improvement, and ensuring that operations deliver against set goals.
  • Supporting the work with decision materials, order systems, and follow-ups.
  • Contributing to the development of routines, personnel, and equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Experience from civilian positions with responsibility for leadership, planning, or development.
  • Experience in interpreting and working with regulations, law, or legal texts.
  • Very good ability to communicate clearly in speech and writing, in both Swedish and English.
  • Valid Driver's License Category B.

Meritorious:

  • Experience working within defence medicine.
  • Experience working in change or development projects.

Personal Attributes:

We are looking for someone who is confident in their profession, acts with clarity, and has a good ability to explain and motivate in a pedagogical manner. You are results-oriented and accustomed to following up on operational performance and contributing to improvements. You need to have a well-developed communication ability, both when conveying your own messages and when receiving feedback.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.
