We offer you
Nyströmska School is an educational center centrally located in Söderköping with students in upper secondary school, adapted upper secondary school, adapted compulsory school (grades 7–9), and adult education. The school has a dedicated staff group where many have worked for a long time. We are now looking for a special needs teacher specializing in intellectual disabilities to join our team, with responsibility for teaching mathematics and natural sciences for our students in the adapted upper secondary school's national program Health, Care, and Social Care, as well as a special needs teaching assignment for grades 7–9. We put knowledge and education in focus, and our goal is for our students to develop as far as possible based on their prerequisites. With the keywords "Close to you. Always." the focus at Nyströmska is to see every student, to help them grow as individuals together, and to prepare them for their future.
- Within the adapted upper secondary school, we currently have 8 students in the Health, Care, and Social Care program and 3 students in the individual program. In the adapted compulsory school grades 7–9, there are currently 13 students studying subject-oriented or subject-area courses.
- You will be part of the team for adapted upper secondary school.
- The school has several experienced colleagues within adapted school, as well as a development teacher for adapted school.
- The school has a dedicated student health team consisting of principals, special needs teachers/special educators, study and career counselors, school counselor, and school nurse.
Job Description
In your role as a special needs teacher, you primarily teach mathematics and natural sciences in close collaboration with your colleagues. The position includes independent planning, teaching, and assessment, as well as mentoring. You are well acquainted with the school's governing documents and work based on the student's needs and interests, both individually and together with your colleagues. Your teaching is creative and aims to find strategies to strengthen your students, both academically and in their personal development. It is important for you to create conditions for good social interactions between the students. In your professional role, you are also expected to collaborate with other professional groups and guardians, always with the student's best interest in focus.
Qualifications
We are looking for you who are a certified teacher with a special needs teacher degree, specializing in intellectual disabilities, with mathematics and natural sciences as the primary foundation, although Swedish is also an asset. You have experience working in adapted schools, knowledge about students with intellectual disabilities (ID) and neurodevelopmental disorders (ND), and the pedagogical tools needed to support them. You should be well acquainted with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) and be a regular user of assistive technology. You have experience making lesson content accessible, for example, using picture support.
We are looking for you who are equipped with good social competence and teamwork skills. You are creative, solution-oriented, and sensitive to the students' individual prerequisites. You create engagement and participation for both colleagues and students. It is required that you are calm and pedagogical with great patience and a good ability to create security for each student. Great importance is attached to personal suitability.
