About the Workplace

Maria Preschool is located in central Gällivare, close to the library, swimming hall, and museum.

Maria Preschool organizes its activities into age-segregated groups. The preschool consists of 2 buildings with separate yards. One building houses 3 departments for children aged 1–2 years. The other building has 5 departments for age-segregated groups of children aged 3–5 years. At Maria Preschool, we work in 3-, 4-, and 5-year-old groups, meaning that work teams collaborate across departments to give children the opportunity to explore and discover different learning environments.

Job Responsibilities

The role of a preschool teacher (barnskötare) involves designing a safe and developmental environment for the children on the preschool's departments, together with the work team. The curriculum's guidelines describe your responsibilities within the team regarding the development, follow-up, and evaluation of the activities and education.

As a preschool teacher, you are part of a work team and participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the education offered to the children. In collaboration with the team, children should be given new challenges and receive support and stimulation in their social development.

Qualifications

Trained preschool teacher (barnskötare) or other experience deemed equivalent by the employer.

It is important that you:

• are familiar with our governing document, the Preschool Curriculum (Lpfö 18),
• are a secure and clear leader, take initiative, are positive, and have faith in the children's various competencies,
• are interested in developing learning environments,
• value trust-based relationships with children and guardians and have good cooperation skills,
• use pedagogical conversations and pedagogical documentation in your work.

In accordance with the National Minority Language Act, Gällivare Municipality is the administrative municipality for Sami, Meänkieli, and Finnish. Knowledge of any of these languages is an advantage when applying for employment in Gällivare Municipality.

You will need to provide a certificate of good conduct (extract from the police register) for work in schools and childcare upon employment.

Working Hours/Duration

Full-time, fixed-term employment for the academic year 2026/2027.
