Special Educator/Class Teacher for Lerum's Adapted Upper Secondary School

At Lerum Upper Secondary School, there are just over 1,300 students across 9 national programs, adult education, and an adapted upper secondary school. The school's vision is "A school open to all - Become the best version of yourself".

RESPONSIBILITIES
As a special educator/class teacher at Lerum's adapted upper secondary school, you have overall pedagogical responsibility for your group. Our mission rests on the Education Act and the regional framework, which means we focus on promoting students' personal development, social community, and progression towards goals.
You will be the hub in a classroom team where you lead the work with resource teachers and teaching assistants. Together, you create a safe and accessible learning environment where each student's unique abilities are at the center.
With us, you are never alone. We have formed a strong organization around our teaching. In the unit, we have a special educator who supports at the organizational, group, and individual levels, as well as a lead teacher with a specific mandate to lead the development of the work team.
Together, we are currently driving our priority development area: Develop teaching and student learning. For you, this means you will have a close, professional sounding board and good opportunities to develop in your professional role.
Your main areas of responsibility:
- Pedagogical Leadership & Assessment: You plan, conduct, and evaluate teaching, and are responsible for continuous assessment and students' progression towards goals.
- Accessible Learning Environment in Collaboration: You develop the learning environment with a focus on promoting and preventive measures, in close collaboration with the special educator and the Student Health Team (SHT).
- Systematic Quality Work (SQW): You drive the work of analyzing student progression and actively participate in the work team's collegial development in collaboration with the lead teacher and special educator.
- Communication & Leadership: You lead the classroom team operationally and own the formal dialogue with guardians regarding students' knowledge development.
QUALIFICATIONS
To succeed and thrive in the role, we see that you have:
- A pedagogical university degree with eligibility to teach in adapted schools (meritorious if you are trained as a special educator).
- Experience working with the target group and a deep understanding of intellectual disabilities.
- Clear leadership skills and the ability to lead other adults in the classroom (resource teacher and teaching assistant).
- A drive for school development: You are motivated by collegial learning and want to contribute to our priority development area.
We offer a dynamic workplace with a clear role structure. You are backed up by a resource teacher (expert in AAC, LAB, and clarifying pedagogy), a teaching assistant (for close care work), and strong pedagogical support from a special educator and lead teacher.
