Are you a dedicated educator who wants to make a real difference at a family-oriented rural school where the path from idea to decision is short? With us, you have the opportunity to shape the future reading and writing development in a beautiful natural environment! Welcome to Askeby School!
Your responsibilities
As a special needs teacher, you are responsible for special educational work and supporting students in need of additional assistance. In your role, you are expected to contribute to identifying and mapping students' support needs. You will collaborate with class teachers regarding individual students' need for adjustments.
Your role includes:
- Conducting targeted classroom instruction and individual tutoring, primarily for grades 4–6, with the flexibility to support younger age groups over time based on operational needs.
- Leading and driving our priority initiative on students' reading comprehension.
- Conducting screening tests, investigative mapping, and being responsible for creating and evaluating action plans.
- Closely collaborating with the school's other full-time special needs teachers in Swedish to create a consistent thread in the support provided.
- Working closely with class teachers, teaching staff, and personnel in our SU-group (Special Instruction Group) where you share joint responsibility for the students' development.
- Ensuring that the teaching methods used are research-based and evaluable.
Your workplace
Askeby School is a grades F-6 school with an associated after-school center, located approximately 15 km from central Linköping. The school has around 180 students, of whom about 120 are in the middle school years. The safe and small-scale atmosphere is enhanced by the school's location in a beautiful natural area and old cultural landscape. The school is surrounded by fine nature and a rural environment where we have a school forest. We regularly utilize our immediate surroundings, including during outdoor days and other activities.
The principal area for Askeby and Bankekind schools has a joint school leadership and joint development work, which means we have a well-functioning collaboration between all our operations. We work actively with school development and have jointly set goals for school and after-school activities that are evaluated periodically. We are keen on collaborating and cooperating between the schools to create a sense of "we" among the staff and equal education for our wonderful students.
A stable and skilled group of staff works actively for a safe environment characterized by personality, closeness, and care. Since we are a smaller school, we are used to helping each other, and you will get to know all the students and colleagues at the school. We are a workplace characterized by collaboration, joy in work, and engagement.
Who you are
We are looking for you who have a teaching license and a special needs teacher degree with a focus on language, writing, and reading development. Alternatively, you have another pedagogical education that the employer deems equivalent and interesting, such as a special education degree or documented substantial experience in special instruction. You have previous work experience in the pedagogical work that the teaching role entails.
Since public transport to the school is very limited, it is a requirement that you have a B-driver's license and access to a car, or access to another way of getting to the workplace.
You have good communicative skills in speech and writing in Swedish. This is because, according to the curriculum, you must organize and carry out the work so that the student receives support in their language and communication development.
You have a positive attitude and bring enthusiasm and energy to the work. You have a good ability to create participation in the operations and can create and maintain relationships at the workplace. You have good insight into how people absorb knowledge and can adapt your way of conveying messages to others. You communicate clearly. You are secure in yourself and see relationships in their proper perspective. Furthermore, you take responsibility for your task and drive your processes forward.
