The Swedish National Heritage Board is Sweden's authority for cultural heritage issues. We work to preserve, use, and develop cultural environments, cultural landscapes, cultural objects, and museums. Our mandate is guided by the government's goals for cultural policy and state cultural heritage work. Our operations are located in Visby, Stockholm, and Tumba, and we also conduct public activities at the visitor site Glimmingehus. We have approximately 250 employees.

The mandate of the Legal Unit is to provide legal support to the authority and to educate on issues such as cultural heritage law, administrative law, public access and confidentiality, data protection, copyright, and environmental law. The unit represents the authority in court, responds to consultations, and drafts regulations. Currently, eight legal experts, a legal archivist, and a registrar work at the unit. The authority's Data Protection Officer is located within the unit. The Legal Unit is one of six units on the Business Support Department.

Your responsibilities

As a legal expert here, you work closely with the operations. The position we are currently recruiting for focuses on providing legal support for the authority's digitalization work. Digitalization of cultural heritage that provides societal benefit is one of the authority's strategic directions for the coming years, and both digitalization and AI are prioritized development areas. The role also includes other issues handled by the Legal Unit, such as supporting the organization in concluding agreements and contracts, providing consultation responses, and conducting legal investigations. You will also contribute to developing and quality-assuring the authority's processes and case handling.

The tasks are varied and require your ability to combine good knowledge of the legal areas handled by the unit with an understanding of what best contributes to the Swedish National Heritage Board fulfilling its mandate in accordance with current law.

Your qualifications

You have a Master of Laws degree (or equivalent) and several years of experience and good knowledge of data protection, public access and confidentiality, administrative law, and IT legal issues. You have both experience with and a strong interest in digitalization. Your approach is well-rooted in the values of the Swedish public sector, and you are committed to promoting a good administrative culture. Experience with preparedness and/or security clearance issues is an advantage.

As a person, you are engaged and development-oriented, and you can work independently and with a results focus. You are careful, structured, and have good skills in coordinating and driving work forward. You are receptive, easy to collaborate with, and place great importance on good relationships in the workplace. Furthermore, you must be unpretentious, adaptable to new situations, and able to work with legal issues outside your core competence.

As a lawyer, you are very confident in your professional practice and accustomed to offering solutions based on the organization's needs and mandate. You have an interest and aptitude for working across operations and thrive in a consultative role.

Other information

The employment is permanent with a six-month probation period. The location is Visby, and we offer the possibility of remote work for up to 50 percent of your working time.
