Subject/Subject Description

Special needs education at Stockholm University is an interdisciplinary field of knowledge with a bridging function between several scientific areas, based on the interaction between the individual, context, and society. Knowledge in this area focuses on interventions before difficulties arise, as well as facilitating conditions for individuals with various disabilities and/or those in socially vulnerable life situations.

Responsibilities

The appointment includes competence and research time according to the current collective agreement.

The appointed professor shall actively participate in developing leading special needs education research from a national and international perspective. The role involves research, teaching at undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels, as well as leading administrative duties within the department and faculty.

Qualifications

Eligible for appointment as professor is one who has demonstrated both scientific and pedagogical proficiency.

The applicant must possess the ability to collaborate as well as the general ability and suitability required to perform the duties of the position effectively.

To perform the duties of the appointment, the applicant must have documented ability to use Swedish orally and in writing at a professional level. This is demonstrated, for example, through documented experience of teaching in Swedish or a certificate of language skills corresponding to at least level B2 (CEFR).

Assessment Criteria

Particular and equal weight is given to pedagogical and scientific proficiency.

Scientific proficiency shall be demonstrated through independent research contributions in special needs education or a related field that significantly exceed what is required for docent competence, both qualitatively and quantitatively. Planning and leadership of research, as well as experience in roles such as opponent, member of examination boards, expert, or peer reviewer, are also considered significant.

Pedagogical proficiency is normally demonstrated through teaching at undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels. The assessment of pedagogical proficiency shall cover the planning, implementation, and evaluation of teaching, as well as supervision and examination. The pedagogical proficiency must be well documented in a way that allows for an assessment of the quality of the pedagogical activities.

Great importance is attached to documented ability to collaborate with colleagues.

Great importance is attached to successful doctoral supervision, demonstrated by active supervision of at least one doctoral student through to a successful defense.

Great importance is attached to administrative proficiency and the ability to collaborate with the surrounding society and to disseminate information about research and development work.

Great importance is attached to successfully planning, applying for, and obtaining grants for research projects from external funders.

Great importance is attached to experience in skillfully leading and developing operations, staff, and research projects, as well as experience in roles such as board or committee member.

The following are considered meritorious:

  • University teaching education or equivalent of at least 15 higher education credits, or equivalent knowledge acquired in another way.
  • Completed doctoral supervisor training.

About the Appointment

The appointment is permanent and full-time, with a start date to be agreed upon.

Applicants who lack university teaching education of at least 15 higher education credits and who are not assessed to have acquired equivalent knowledge in another way must undergo such education during the first two years of the appointment.
