Akalla Grundskola is a two-stream municipal school for grades F-9 with approximately 535 students and 105 employees. The school also includes Järvafältet's regional special education groups.

We largely operate with a three- and two-teacher model in grades 1-9. We have the opportunity to use the large green areas around Järvafältet and Akalla village/farm during both school hours and leisure time. The school is located close to public transportation.

We are a multicultural school, and we strive to use language-developing approaches and methods that benefit our students. We are constantly working to develop our operations to provide our students with the best possible education in a pleasant school environment.

Our school focuses on internationalization work that promotes the development of both students and staff. Since 2024, the school has been accredited for Erasmus+ and is involved in an ongoing project with a school in Spain, which includes an exchange visit.

The school actively works with value-based education, including violence prevention, and uses the Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) method in grades 4-5 and 7-8.

Your role

In the role of School Counselor, you will be an important part of the school's student health team.

As a School Counselor, you will develop preventive and promoting student health work at the school in close collaboration with school leadership, student health professionals, and other staff.

In this role, you will hold individual and group conversations with students, both inside and outside the classroom. You will attend parent meetings and network meetings, supervise staff, and document case handling.

You will be involved in developing and implementing action plans, such as plans against discrimination and harassment, as well as plans addressing repeated and long-term absenteeism. You will work with crisis management, value-based education, and conflict resolution, as well as counteracting discrimination and harassment.

As a counselor, you are a member of Akalla Grundskola's school social team.

Your qualifications and experience

We are looking for you who have a degree in Social Work with previous experience in social work with children and young people, preferably as a school counselor or within social services. The counselor's role requires the ability to handle multiple perspectives, as school social work must safeguard and highlight the importance of structural, organizational, and relational perspectives. This requires knowledge of children and young people and their development. It also presupposes that you have a broad range of working methods based on theories of societal and social systems, human behavior, communication, and interaction between people. The psychosocial intervention is based on knowledge within social work, psychosocial change work, sociology, psychology, social law, and a broad and continuously updated knowledge of society's welfare system.
