Do you want to make a difference for children and young people's schooling and well-being? We are now looking for a school counselor for Bergsgårdsskolan who wants to become part of our dedicated team! The position is a permanent full-time role located in both the primary school and the adapted primary school.

Bergsgårdsskolan is a primary school with grades F–6 (two parallel classes) as well as an adapted primary school for grades 1–6. We have approximately 330 students in the primary school and around 70 students in the adapted primary school, distributed across 13 classes. The operations also include three after-school care departments. The school is located in Hjällbo with immediate proximity to nature areas and just a five-minute walk from the Hjällbo tram stop.

The school has an experienced and well-functioning student health team consisting of a school nurse, counselor, special educator, and psychologist who are always available as close support for all our students and staff.

Responsibilities

As a counselor, you are part of the school's and the school district's student health team and contribute psychosocial competence at the organizational, group, and individual levels. In student health work, you collaborate with teachers, school nurses, special educators, psychologists, school doctors, and deputy principals.

The team's mission is to work health-promoting and preventive together with the deputy principal and work teams to strengthen children and young people's opportunities to achieve goals.

In addition to your local team at Bergsgårdsskolan, you also have close cooperation and exchange with other counselors in the Hjällbo school district.

Your responsibilities include:

• Participating in the school's continuous values and safety work, as well as implementing interventions in groups and classes.
• Conducting support conversations and collaborating with and supporting guardians. Offering consultation to the school's staff.
• Conducting school social investigations and assessments prior to admission to the adapted primary school (special school) and investigating student absences.
• Documenting your work in PMO. You have good knowledge of the Social Services Act, the Education Act, and other regulatory documents.
• Collaborating with external actors such as social services, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (BUP), Outpatient Psychiatric Clinic (UPH), habilitation, leisure activities, as well as SSPF and Rätt kurva.

Within the Primary School Administration, you participate in professional meetings once a month together with counselor colleagues and professional developers, and participate in external supervision. Counselors in the administration work from a common job description. As a new counselor with us, you will receive a good introduction and a mentor.

Qualifications

Formal Qualifications

We are looking for you who have a degree in social work or equivalent higher education that is assessed as relevant by the employer. We wish that you have experience working as a counselor as well as experience working with children and young people.

Meritorious is also if you have:

- Experience of work within social services

- Experience of promoting and preventive measures

- Education in conversation methodology / supervision

Personal Qualifications

To thrive and succeed in the role, you are stable, empathetic, non-hierarchical, and secure in your professional role. You have a strong commitment to the psychosocial situation of children and young people and have a genuine ability to meet people in different life situations. You find it easy to build relationships and are professional and respectful in your treatment of students, guardians, and colleagues. Through your working method, you enable children to tell their stories and contribute to highlighting students' participation and perspectives.

The professional role requires a high degree of independence, teamwork skills, and personal maturity. You have an interest in working in a pedagogical environment and in teams with different professions. In your work, you are structured and clear, take initiative and make decisions within the framework of your assignment, and prioritize your efforts together with the principal and other student health staff. You enjoy working with complex issues, see opportunities, and are creative. You keep your cool in difficult situations and can make well-founded decisions even under time pressure. You also have a good ability to express yourself well both orally and in writing.
