The Swedish Armed Forces are in an expansion phase and on a significant growth journey. We are strengthening the military region staff in the North with a physical planning position through recruitment in Boden.

About the position

As a physical planner within a military region (MR), your main task is to respond to referrals regarding urban planning issues, as well as participate in collaboration regarding physical planning at the local and regional levels. In the preparation of cases, you collaborate both internally within the Swedish Armed Forces and with external actors, such as county administrative boards and municipalities. Examples of cases you will prepare include building permits, detailed development plans, road plans, area protection, and comprehensive plans. You and your colleagues will together establish and contribute to the development as a new part of the Swedish Armed Forces' organization within physical planning. About national interests and physical planning within

You will be part of the Swedish Armed Forces' organization for physical planning, which is managed by the Defense Staff at the Swedish Armed Forces' headquarters. Together with the three other military region staffs and the Defense Staff, you will contribute to ensuring access to suitable land and water areas for the military part of total defense and contribute to the agency's work with national interests.

Main responsibilities

The position requires extensive knowledge of urban planning and knowledge of the activities carried out by authorities within the framework of the military part of total defense. We would like you to have a strong interest in defense issues.

  • Process referrals, primarily from municipalities, county administrative boards, and urban planning actors within physical planning
  • As the Swedish Armed Forces' representative at the regional level, participate in municipal and state coordinated planning work, e.g., comprehensive planning
  • Participate in and support the function's work with national interests and physical planning. This includes, among other things, participating in method development and revision of national interests for the military part of total defense
  • The work also includes supporting the Military Region Staff with expertise in physical planning within the framework of operational planning and participating in the staff's operations

REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications

  • At least a three-year university or college degree in physical planning, urban planning, environmental science, or equivalent education assessed by the employer as equivalent
  • A couple of years of current and relevant work experience in physical planning, preferably within an authority within the military part of total defense
  • Good knowledge of the Planning and Building Act (2010:900) and the Environmental Code (1998:808), and their application
  • A well-developed communicative ability to express yourself in speech and writing in Swedish and English
  • Knowledge of handling information in the form of maps and text documents
  • Category B driver's license (manual)

MERITORIOUS

  • Experience from working with urban planning, area protection, infrastructure within authorities, municipalities, or architecture firms/technical consultants
  • Good knowledge regarding the Road Act (1971:948), the Electricity Act (1997:857), and/or other related legislation, as well as the Administrative Procedure Act (2017:900)
  • Experience of working in the Swedish Armed Forces or other total defense authority work/organization/assignments
  • Experience of working with national interests
  • Good knowledge of working in ArcGIS
  • Experience of handling information covered by confidentiality

Other

Employment type: Permanent. The Swedish Armed Forces applies a six-month probationary period for you if you are not already employed by the agency.

Travel within Sweden occurs, as well as evening and weekend duty.

Information about the Swedish Armed Forces and the recruiting unit:

The Northern Military Region (MR N) is responsible for territorial command in the four northern counties. The region consists of a staff and five training groups. The operations are located from Kiruna in the north to Härnösand in the south. At MR N, there are seven home guard battalions and several support functions.
