Focus of the Doctoral Position
The doctoral position is in Pedagogy, with a focus on AI in teacher education. The position will be located at Umeå University, Department of Pedagogy, and linked to research in the areas of Didactics, Educational History and Assessment, and Pedagogy in a Digital World.
The doctoral position is advertised in collaboration with the national doctoral school GRAITE (Doctoral School for Artificial Intelligence in Teacher Education). GRAITE aims to generate knowledge about how AI affects teacher education and the teacher's professional role. A key starting point in GRAITE is that Swedish teacher education should contribute to students developing technical, pedagogical, and subject-specific didactic competencies, while simultaneously safeguarding the school's democratic mission. A second starting point is that teacher educators can understand, use, and critically relate to AI technologies – while simultaneously preparing future teachers for teaching in a school and society increasingly shaped and permeated by AI.
The doctoral project will address AI in teacher education. Central research questions may range from policy levels to practice-oriented issues. This may involve studies concerning organizational and leadership perspectives, as well as studies of teacher educators' teaching practices and teacher students' learning with AI.
