Are you studying to become a subject teacher or are enrolled in a natural science bachelor's or master's program and looking for a rewarding part-time job? As an assistant at Upptäckarklubben (Discovery Club), you will gain practical professional experience in your field of study while building connections and developing your professional network.
Upptäckarklubben targets curious young students in grades 4 and 5 and operates as an extracurricular activity. The activities are based on natural sciences and technology. The purpose is to create an extracurricular activity that gives children the opportunity to nurture their curiosity and interest in natural sciences and technology. The focus is therefore on creating interest and encouraging children to conduct their own investigations. We meet every other week (Wednesdays 15:00-18:30, eight times per term).
We are currently seeking 2-3 assistants starting August 26.
Responsibilities
You will assist the club leader in maintaining order in the classroom, taking attendance, distributing materials, instructing on your own initiative, ensuring everyone keeps up, planning lessons, and taking photos for social media. You will also test, prepare, and lead experimental demonstrations with the children, sometimes for the whole group and sometimes in smaller groups. You will also give short lectures of the "question box" type, or introduce the day's lesson to the whole class if there is interest.
Qualifications
We are looking for you who are a student at the University of Gothenburg and have studied here for at least one term.
For this specific employment, you must also be studying one of the following:
- A natural science subject teacher program at the University of Gothenburg
- An educational program within biology & molecular biology, pharmacy, physics, earth sciences & geography, IT, chemistry, cultural heritage care, marine science, mathematics, or environmental science at the University of Gothenburg.
Previous experience teaching natural sciences to students in the relevant age group, and good didactic skills, are meritorious. As a person, you are proactive, team-oriented, and organized. You must speak Swedish at least at level B2. An extract from the police record (criminal background check) must be presented before employment begins.
Employment
The employment is an intermittent position comprising a maximum of 30 hours per term, located at the Department of Biology and Environmental Science. The employment runs until May 2027. Start in August, according to agreement.
Work assignments and the number of working hours per month will vary based on the needs of the activity.
