The Social Services Department operates a broad range of activities within elderly care, disability services, health and medical care, as well as individual and family care, labor market, and integration. We currently have approximately 300 employees.

We are now looking for a budget and debt counselor for a one-year substitute position, as the permanent employee is on study leave from August 2026. The position is a fixed-term employment until August 31, 2027, with the possibility of continued employment.
The budget and debt counseling belongs to the individual and family care in Lekeberg Municipality. The position is conducted through an agreement collaboration between Lekeberg Municipality, Hallsberg Municipality, and Askersund Municipality, where Lekeberg Municipality is the responsible party and employer for the position.
As a budget and debt counselor, you work independently with counseling and support for residents who need help managing their finances, preventing debt, or applying for debt adjustment. You guide the individual in budget planning and economic structure, assist in contacts with authorities, collection agencies, and creditors, and help with applications for debt adjustment.
Since the work is conducted in collaboration between three municipalities, work is allocated each week in Lekeberg Municipality, Hallsberg Municipality, and Askersund Municipality based on the needs of the operations and the current case volume.
The role also includes important preventive and outward-facing work where you inform about budget and debt counseling in various operations and build collaboration with, for example, social services, open preschools, elderly care, housing support, housing companies, and other actors.
You will work independently with great personal responsibility and are expected to take ownership of the operations and your tasks. The role requires you to be proactive, flexible, and have an easy time building good relationships and collaboration with different operations and professions. Since you are alone in your professional role within the organization, it is important that you feel secure in structuring and driving your work forward independently.
Support and experience exchange occur primarily through external networks and other professional budget and debt counselors.
The assignment also includes monitoring statistics, documenting, and reporting the operation's work to the manager, management groups, and the board.
Qualifications
We are looking for you who are educated as a social worker, social scientist, behavioral scientist, lawyer, economist, or have other education that the employer considers equivalent. You express yourself well in speech and writing, have good administrative skills, and are confident in meeting people in different life situations.
It is meritorious if you have experience in budget and debt counseling, work within social services, or other advisory operations. Experience in exercising authority, debt adjustment work, and knowledge of relevant legislation such as the Debt Adjustment Act, the Social Services Act, and the Administrative Procedure Act is also meritorious. It is also positive if you have experience with the operation system Boss.
As a person, you are independent, structured, and responsible. You need to quickly be able to get into new tasks and have the ability to create trusting relationships with both residents and collaboration partners. Great importance will be attached to personal suitability.
A Category B driver's license is a requirement as the work is conducted in several municipalities.
