The Area of Operations (VO) for Hematology, Oncology, and Radiation Physics is part of Skåne University Hospital (Sus) and has operations in Malmö, Lund, and Helsingborg. The oncological part has three wards: Ward 86 and 87 in Lund, and Ward 1 in Malmö. There is also a large outpatient service with general clinics, treatment clinics, cancer rehabilitation and support, as well as a clinical research unit. Our care is focused on the treatment of cancer diseases, palliative care, and clinical research. We are responsible for all non-surgical cancer care and research-based development of such care in the southern healthcare region.

In the role of assistant nurse, you see the whole patient and their relatives and adapt your care to the patient's varying needs. You work in a team together with nurses according to the patient-near care work model. Here, we treat patients with cancer in the head and neck region, breast cancer, malignant melanoma, gynecological cancer, gastrointestinal cancer, as well as patients with endocrine and neuroendocrine tumors.

Physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dietitians, and social workers also work on the ward. Your duties include helping patients with personal hygiene, serving meals, daily mobilization, blood sugar monitoring, wound dressings, and checks of vital parameters. We are the only oncological inpatient ward in Lund and Malmö that treats patients with radioactive treatments and tracheostomies. After completing training from a licensed nurse, you as an assistant nurse will be able to handle nasogastric tubes, insert urinary catheters, manage tracheostomies, and take venous blood samples.

As a new colleague, you will receive an introduction tailored to your needs and previous experience. The introduction includes mandatory training and time for self-study in the Learning Portal, as well as instructor-led training via Practicum. During your introduction, you will have a mentor on the ward who supports you in your new role and follows up on your progress through regular check-ins. The support from your mentor continues even after the introduction is completed.

The position involves mixed shifts according to a operation-adapted schedule that, as far as possible, takes your preferences into account, provided they comply with the Working Hours Act regarding daily and weekly rest requirements. This also includes weekend shifts, with two weekends out of five. A probationary period may apply.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who are trained as an assistant nurse and meet the National Board of Health and Welfare's requirements for a protected professional title, regardless of whether you studied under the previous or current program structure. Good language skills in Swedish, both spoken and written, are required. If you also have previous experience in palliative care, we consider this a merit.

It is desirable that you enjoy contributing your knowledge to the work group and actively participate in creating a good work climate. We would like you to have an interest in oncological nursing.
