We are now looking for teaching assistants to work as math coaches for the autumn term of 2026.

Your responsibilities

Your duties as a math coach will consist of being available via chat from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Monday to Thursday, to answer questions during the evening hours when many students are doing homework or studying for exams. You can choose which evenings you work and how often you work, and you will receive specific training in online tutoring as well as in using our teaching tool.

Your qualifications

To be employed as a teaching assistant, you must be admitted to a university-level basic or advanced degree program.

You must be enrolled in a subject teacher education program with a focus on mathematics, with good academic results, especially in mathematics courses, and be able to tutor mathematics in Swedish for primary school students up to Mathematics 5 in upper secondary school.

Previous experience in teaching or online tutoring is meritorious.

Your workplace

You will work as a math coach within the "Math Coach Online" operation, a chat service offering free homework help in mathematics for primary and upper secondary school students in the evenings. Our coaches are future subject teachers with mathematics as one of their subjects. Math Coach Online is a complement to school teaching, and the operation is a collaboration between KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Linköping University, Chalmers University of Technology, and the University of Edinburgh. You will work at the Division of Analysis and Didactics (ANDI), Department of Mathematics (MAI). Mathematics is of fundamental importance for modern natural sciences and technology but is simultaneously its own field of science. Research and education at the department cover a broad spectrum of areas, from pure mathematics and internally generated problem statements to applications in technology, natural sciences, economics, and subject didactics. At ANDI, both internal and applied research is conducted within various branches of analysis and mathematics didactics.

About the employment

The employment is for the autumn term of 2026 and may be extended. You have the opportunity to work one to four evenings per month, and the extent of the employment is regulated by agreement with the operations manager, Daniel Carlsson.

An employment as a teaching assistant can never be more than 50 percent of a full-time position.

An employment as a teaching assistant is regulated in Chapter 5 of the Higher Education Ordinance.
