Bergsjöskolan is a school catering to students from preschool class to grade 6, as well as an adapted primary school for grades 1–6. Approximately 450 students attend our school. They come from diverse backgrounds, educational histories, and knowledge bases, contributing to our rich diversity.

Our approach is based on "translanguaging," which means students are encouraged to use all their languages and experiences to develop knowledge and values, create meaning, and foster understanding. Translanguaging is a perspective and pedagogical tool where students' languages and experiential worlds are viewed as assets in learning.

Bergsjöskolan is located in the eastern part of Bergsjön, near the Rymdtorget tram stop. You can easily reach us via local public transport, taking approximately 20 minutes from central Gothenburg by tram 7 and 11, as well as bus 58 and 74.

Responsibilities

We are currently looking for a teacher for Home Economics and Consumer Knowledge at Bergsjöskolan's primary school for grades 6–9 and the adapted primary school for grades 4–6. You will be part of the intermediate stage and divide your time equally between the regular primary school and the adapted primary school.

You will plan, teach, and follow up on lessons, which will take place in half-class settings and smaller groups. The students' needs are at the center of our work, and we see our ability to meet them in flexible groupings as a key factor for their development and learning.

In addition to students from Bergsjöskolan's primary and adapted schools, students from nearby primary schools will also attend our classes for Home Economics and Consumer Knowledge.

In your role at the school, you will be part of a work team. Collegial learning is valuable to us; we work better and more effectively together. At our school, it is important that many different perspectives, knowledge, and insights are brought forward. This allows us to find new paths, methods, and solutions to help students develop as much as possible.

As a teacher, you will also collaborate closely with the Student Health Team (SHT). At Bergsjöskolan, we work according to the EHM (Student Health Meeting) model, where teachers and the SHT meet to gain a holistic view of the students. We place great emphasis on building good relationships with our children and guardians.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who have the qualifications to teach Home Economics in grades 6–9 and in the adapted primary school for grades 4–6. You have experience working with children/individuals with neuropsychiatric disabilities and AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication).

It is an advantage if you have an advanced teacher education with a focus on intellectual disability. Experience working in a multicultural area is also considered an advantage.

You must be able to adapt your communication to the target group and situation, and have the ability to motivate and inspire students to acquire new knowledge. Since you will be working with students from diverse experiential worlds, it is crucial that you have an interest in other cultures and possess strong skills in finding forms of collaboration. Furthermore, we expect you to be comfortable in social interactions, both informal and formal.

You contribute new ideas and perspectives to work-related issues and situations requiring solutions. You are curious, stimulate dialogue, and have the ability to see more than one solution.

You have a good understanding of how individuals absorb knowledge and their different prerequisites. You adapt the way you convey your message to the recipient and encourage dialogue, participation, and engagement. You have the ability to work together with others to perform tasks and achieve goals.
