Postdoc in Macroeconomics with Focus on Heterogeneity
Uppsala UniversitetUppsala län, Uppsala
Previous experience is desired
The Department of Economics is one of the largest departments within the Faculty of Social Sciences, employing approximately 100 staff members from around ten countries. Annually, around 1,000 students participate in our courses at the undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels. The research focus lies on labor economics, macroeconomics, and public economics. Researchers at the department are frequently consulted as experts in public inquiries and in the media, and collaborate in various ways with the surrounding society.
Responsibilities
The duties consist of research, both individual and collaborative, within the framework of the ongoing research project "The Macroeconomy and High-Dimensional Heterogeneity at the Micro Level," funded by the Swedish Research Council for Humanities and Social Sciences (via Riksbankens Jubileumsfond), see information here. Teaching duties amount to a maximum of 20% of the employment.
Qualifications
A PhD in economics or a foreign degree assessed as equivalent to a PhD in economics. The degree must be completed no later than the time the employment decision is made. Preference is given to candidates who have obtained their degree within the last three years. When calculating the three-year timeframe, the starting point is the last day of application. If there are special reasons, such as leave due to illness, parental leave, or trust-based positions within trade unions, etc., the degree may have been obtained earlier.
Good knowledge of English, both spoken and written, is required.
Desirable/Additional Merits
Competence and experience related to the issues within the project are desirable. Particularly regarding macroeconomic models with heterogeneous agents, machine learning algorithms, especially concerning causal inference, applied microeconometrics, and microsimulation models.
The assessment of applications is primarily based on the applicant's ability to conduct independent research based on scientific skill. Greater weight is placed on the quality of each individual scientific work than on the quantity of publications.
About the Employment
The employment is fixed-term for two years with the possibility of extension for one year. The position is full-time. Start date: September 1, 2026, or as agreed. Location: Uppsala.
Information about the employment can be obtained from: Professor Mikael Carlsson, tel: 018/4717140, email: [email protected].
Application
The application must include a cover letter clearly stating the candidate's research interests, qualifications, and relevant experience (max. 2 A4 pages), CV, publication list, copy of the PhD degree, and contact details for three references. Please clearly inform us of any circumstances (e.g., parental leave) that are relevant to the assessment of your eligibility. The application must be written in English.
We welcome your application no later than June 5, 2026, Ref: UFV-PA 2026/1773.
