About the role

As CTO at the Swedish Customs Administration, you have an important role in making choices and decisions regarding IT technology that contribute to technical development and digital transformation. As CTO, you lead the work on implementing new technology and assess and manage risks. Furthermore, you have an important task in leading the development of guidelines and guidance, as well as ensuring that other parts of the organization adopt the IT solutions in an appropriate manner. You will also assess the technical solutions from an economic perspective and ensure they are manageable over time. In addition, it is important to have the ability to inspire employees from different areas to work together towards common goals to best develop and streamline operations, as well as to create and strengthen community and engagement.

The role of CTO is new at the Swedish Customs Administration, which means you will have great opportunities to influence how the work is structured and performed.

You will also collaborate closely with other departments, units, and development areas to ensure that our IT solutions are efficient, user-friendly, and aligned with our overarching strategies and goals. Your work will be crucial in promoting innovation and digitalization of the agency.

We are looking for you who are a confident and inspiring leader with the ability to combine technical depth with a strategic holistic perspective. You have experience leading technology development in large organizations, preferably within the public sector or another regulated environment.

Are you the one we are looking for?

We are looking for you who have:

  • an academic degree in IT or established work experience that the employer considers equivalent
  • at least 5 years of work in a similar IT role within the last 8 years
  • several years of experience in the IT industry with competence ranging from technical to leadership roles
  • the ability to continuously stay updated with technical trends in development languages, platforms, infrastructure, development methodology, etc.
  • broad and current knowledge of on-premise IT solutions
  • experience working in agile organizations
  • good ability to express yourself well verbally and in writing in Swedish and English
  • Swedish citizenship

It is also meritorious if you have experience with the following:

  • broad and current knowledge of IT infrastructure, IT platforms, IT operations, and IT development
  • broad and current knowledge of cloud solutions
  • AI and machine learning
  • IT and information security
  • agile and innovative working methods
  • work in public operations and/or large companies

We place high demands on our employees' awareness of security and confidentiality. Before a decision on employment is made, you will undergo a drug test and background check. Security clearance with register check according to the Security Protection Act is conducted before employment, as the position is classified. The Swedish Customs Administration is a total defense agency, and upon employment, you will be mobilized for war service within the Customs Administration. The employment is permanent and may begin with a 6-month probation period.
