Firefighter on Call – Strömstad Municipality

Strömstad Municipality is a small and close-knit organization where everyone is important and works together to deliver the best possible service.

The Rescue Service in Strömstad Municipality has two fire stations, one in Strömstad and one in Skee. Together with our collaboration partners Halden, Tanum, and Sotenäs municipalities, we aim to be one of the best rescue services in Västra Götaland.

Job Responsibilities

In Strömstad Municipality, firefighters, also referred to as rescue service personnel on call, are employed part-time within our rescue service. This means that as a firefighter, you have a regular employer and, in addition to your main job, you work on call as a firefighter.

With us, you are on call as a firefighter every fourth week. This means that if an alarm is raised during your on-call period, you leave your workplace, training session, or Friday social gathering to respond as a firefighter. The work as a firefighter is varied and can involve everything from fires and traffic accidents to providing medical care while waiting for an ambulance. We are now looking for more firefighters for the stations in Skee and Strömstad!

The position as a firefighter provides you with opportunities for personal development and plays a vital role in our society. We provide you with the necessary training to work as a firefighter, and we actively work with further education and regular exercises – all to ensure we are the best when it counts.

Qualifications

• You have good physical fitness, adequate vision and hearing, and are a competent swimmer.
• Driving license category B at minimum; category C is an advantage.
• You must have a permanent employment contract with your regular employer.
• You must be able to be on call for seven days (Monday to Monday) during a four-week period.

The time from when the alarm is received by the rescue service until the first rescue vehicle leaves the station must be a maximum of 5 minutes for the Strömstad station and 8 minutes for the Skee station. This means that your home and workplace must be located near one of the fire stations so that you can meet the response time requirements.

Remember to discuss this with your regular employer. Upon employment, we require written approval that you can work as rescue service personnel on call, as this means you must leave your job immediately when an alarm is raised and must be able to take leave for training and exercises when necessary.

If you are considered for the firefighter position, we will invite you to our "test day," where tests such as the treadmill test, high-altitude test, and claustrophobia test will be conducted. For the test day, you need to bring a certificate of swimming competence and a certificate from your employer.
