Do you want to make a real difference in young people's lives? We are looking for two After-School Mentors for the project Future After-School Mentors – part of the Employment Measures Unit in Järva.

Welcome to us

We are now looking for an engaged and educated person with a heart in the right place and the competence to change lives. As an after-school mentor, you will be the safe adult who helps high school students in Järva take back their future – through presence, relationship building, and meaningful interventions in both school and leisure time.

Future After-School Mentors is a preventive support program for students with high school absenteeism, F-warnings, and low motivation. Through structured mentoring – integrated with the school, student health services, and after-school activities – we work to increase school attendance, improve grades, and build motivation.

The project is part of the Employment Measures Unit, which brings together the municipality's promoting and preventive measures for young people in Järva.

The unit consists of:

  • Holiday Activities – coordination of holiday jobs
  • UVAS – coordination regarding young people who are neither working nor studying
  • After-School Library – free lending of sports and leisure equipment

Together, we create a cohesive chain of support from leisure time to the future.

Your role

You will, among other things:

  • Support young people in planning, study techniques, and completion of homework and assignments.
  • Lead or coordinate inspirational activities, workshops, and study visits.
  • Collaborate closely with schools, parents, and other staff within the unit.
  • Follow up on the student's development and contribute to documentation and administrative work related to the project.
  • Create study plans together with the young person.

Your competence and experience

We are looking for you who have:

  • A university degree, preferably in pedagogy, social work, behavioral science, or a similar field.
  • Documented experience working with young people in vulnerable life situations.
  • Experience teaching, supervising, or supporting young people in their learning, preferably at the high school level.

It is meritorious if you have:

  • Teaching certification or experience teaching in a relevant subject.
  • Experience working in areas with socio-economic challenges.
  • Experience in after-school activities, mentoring, or study support measures.

As an after-school mentor, you are an important part of the work to create security and hope for the future for young people. You are engaged, secure, and responsible – you meet young people with patience, presence, and respect. You have a communicative ability that allows you to build trusting relationships and explain difficult subjects in a simple, inspiring, and structured way. With a good holistic view, you understand the interaction between school, leisure, health, and motivation – and you contribute to creating long-term and meaningful solutions for young people's development.

Your application

The position is fixed-term during the project period (August 2026 – August 2028). Working hours include daytime, afternoons, and some evenings. A certificate of good conduct (extract from the criminal record) is required prior to employment.
