About the job
This assistant position is linked to the VR-project "The Folk High School as a Mirror of Contemporary Society" (https://liu.se/forskning/folkhogskolan-som-samtidsspegel). The duties include systematizing and cataloguing archive documents related to the history of folk high schools and study associations.
We are looking for an assistant with programming skills to process large-scale data and build the foundation for an SQL database, as well as to connect or migrate data from a SOLR database to a new MySQL backend. The interface built on this backend will make it possible to publish data as an open, accessible resource that other researchers and adult educators can explore. By working with large-scale data on Swedish cultural heritage in text and image, you will contribute to a national infrastructure of great significance for future research on adult education.
About you
To be employed as an assistant, you must be admitted to a higher education program at the first or second cycle level. We are looking for you who are knowledgeable in innovative programming and data-driven text analysis.

- master programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, or R, and have good experience with database management such as SOLR or MySQL, as well as integration of data pipelines/APIs.
It is meritorious if you have:
- previous experience of assistant work in research, for example within information and library science, sociology, pedagogy, or digital humanities.
- good knowledge of the Swedish folk high school system or previous experience of adult education through, for example, student work, internships, or professional experience.
