Our core values rest on credibility, trust, and security. By being brave, thinking freely, and innovating, we create a better future together through both large and small actions. We welcome you to apply for a job with us!
Your responsibilities
We are currently seeking three doctoral students. As a doctoral student with us, you will work within one of the following ongoing research projects.
The DIGENPLAN project addresses gaps in access to reliable data on final energy use in buildings, business, and transport. The tasks include developing energy taxonomies for these sectors, creating methodologies for bottom-up data collection in collaboration with municipalities, and collecting and analyzing energy data from at least two municipalities. The work also includes developing visualizations, such as municipal Sankey diagrams, for analyzing and communicating energy flows, as well as developing methods and digital tools for energy data management. Additionally, it involves scientific publication and participation in national and international conferences.
The Climate-Efficient Painting project focuses on reducing energy and resource use as well as emissions within the painting processes for construction machinery in the industry. Through a technological shift, there are opportunities to significantly reduce energy consumption, stop flows of water and chemicals, and improve environmental performance, but this requires substantial investments and the development of decision support. The doctoral project aims to contribute to resource-efficient and circular painting through research, experiments, modeling, and evaluation of processes and systems. A relevant degree in areas such as energy systems, mechanical engineering, or energy technology is required. Knowledge in modeling, simulation, or measurement technology, as well as good skills in Swedish and English, are meritorious.
The Hydröms project focuses on how hydropower can strengthen the flexibility of the energy system as the share of renewable electricity production increases. As a doctoral student, you will work with control and forecasting of hydropower production using AI, and analyze how digitalization affects the analysis of the electricity system at regional and national levels. The position requires knowledge in AI, statistics, programming, and energy system analysis, as well as an understanding of societal perspectives. A relevant Master's degree in energy systems is required, along with very good skills in Swedish and English. Experience with Python or Matlab is meritorious, as is a strong interest in energy issues and societal transition. A security clearance may be conducted before a decision on employment is made.
As a doctoral student, you will focus on your doctoral education and the research project you are part of. Your work may also include teaching or participating in other departmental duties, up to 20% of full-time.
Your qualifications
You have completed an advanced level degree in energy or equivalent, or completed courses totaling at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 credits at an advanced level in energy systems, or have otherwise acquired substantially equivalent knowledge. Your degree must be completed no later than the time the employment decision is made.
Knowledge of Swedish is meritorious. Furthermore, you should have the ability to work independently, be proactive and goal-oriented, and possess problem-solving analytical skills. You should also be clear in your communication and have the ability to collaborate with others.
Your workplace
The Division of Energy Systems is part of a leading research and education organization in its field and conducts research in two thematic areas: Sustainable Built Environment and Industrial Energy Systems. The research is conducted in close collaboration with industry and society, and in cooperation with our national and international networks of researchers. Both education and research are largely multidisciplinary and are carried out in close collaboration with other scientific institutions, industry, and public administration.
