Department of Aquatic Resources

An exciting position for early-career researchers. We are looking for a PhD-holding researcher with expertise in marine ecology or related fields.

About the job

This advertisement concerns a postdoctoral position at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) in Uppsala. You will be part of our research team at the Department of Aquatic Resources and develop analytical and collaborative methods to include biodiversity issues in scientific advice. You will lead and contribute to scientific publications in this area.

The research builds on results from existing projects investigating interactions in food webs, human impacts, and ecosystem services in the Baltic Sea, including the Kattegat. You will evaluate and further develop the application of ecosystem-based methods within coastal and marine management, including fisheries, offshore wind farms, and/or nature conservation. You will use case studies to investigate complex relationships and trade-offs between management goals. The details and applications will be specified further by the postdoc in collaboration with supervisors to take into account personal profile and expertise.

The position is linked to the EU-funded projects MSP4MORE and MORSE, as well as other ongoing projects at SLU Aqua concerning integrated ecosystem analysis and ecosystem-based management. The work involves a combination of analytical work and dialogue with various stakeholder groups and is carried out in collaboration with researchers at SLU Aqua and other universities/institutes.

Your background

We are looking for an engaged researcher with a background in, for example, food web ecology, marine socio-ecological systems, or ecosystem-based management. We value academic excellence and personal qualities such as the ability to collaborate and work and develop independently.

The successful candidate must hold a PhD in marine ecology, fisheries ecology, or a related field. Good knowledge of statistical programming (R) as well as strong oral and written communication skills are required. Documented insights into the Swedish socio-ecological systems of the Baltic and North Seas, scientific advisory processes, and communication with stakeholders are considered advantageous. We place special emphasis on scientific merit relevant to the position, including documented independent research and relevant previous publications or scientific reports.

Postdoctoral positions are intended to support researchers at the beginning of their careers. We primarily seek candidates who have obtained their PhD within the last three years. If you have questions about the position, qualifications, or research focus, you are welcome to contact us before submitting your application.
