A tech company building high-performance, cloud-based systems for the gaming and betting industry. From their office in central Stockholm, they drive the development of transaction-intensive platforms where innovation and performance are at the center – systems that must deliver around the clock, in real-time.

The company was founded by industry veterans from some of the largest players in the gaming industry, with the ambition to do things differently. The team consists of approximately 50 people distributed between Stockholm and Malta. Here, you don't just build features – you help shape how a modern, event-driven microservice architecture evolves.

We are looking for a Senior Java Backend Developer who wants to take a key role in the development team. You will work closely with other developers, DevOps, and the product team to further develop a complex and business-critical platform.

The role suits you if you thrive in a senior, hands-on position with significant technical responsibility. You design and build backend services in Java and Spring Boot, work with event-driven communication via Kafka, and contribute to architectural decisions in close collaboration with the team.

You will become part of a development team of 16 people with low bureaucracy, high technical level, and a strong culture – "freedom under responsibility" in practice.

• Design and develop backend services in Java with Spring Boot

• Build and improve an event-driven microservice architecture with Kafka

• Contribute to architecture and design decisions regarding modularity, performance, and scalability

• Work with the entire development lifecycle – from design to deployment in AWS

• Ensure code quality through code reviews, testing, and continuous improvement

• Collaborate with developers, DevOps, and product teams in a tight, cross-functional team

Must-haves:

• At least 5 years of professional experience with Java backend

• In-depth experience with Spring / Spring Boot

• Practical experience with microservices and event-driven architecture (Kafka or similar)

• Advanced backend background – you have solved harder problems than middleware against databases

• Experience from small or medium-sized companies where you had broad ownership

• Fluent in Swedish and English

• EU citizenship or valid work permit within the EU

• Personality: Self-motivated, takes ownership, thrives with technical complexity

Nice to have:

• Experience from the gaming or betting industry

• Knowledge of distributed systems, high availability, and performance optimization

• Experience with AWS and Linux-based environments

• Experience with CI/CD processes and containerization
