The Swedish National Board of Institutional Care (SiS) is an authority responsible for individualized compulsory care for young people with complex psychosocial issues and for adults with substance abuse problems. SiS also operates closed youth care facilities across the country. Working with us offers a challenging and rewarding career where you contribute to life-changing improvements, regardless of your specific role or location.
SiS Youth Home Brättegården is located just outside Vänersborg. We receive non-compulsory school-age girls with psychosocial issues, mental health challenges, as well as histories of criminality and substance abuse.
Job Description
Are you motivated by helping young people in vulnerable situations? Do you enjoy organizing, leading, and planning? Then apply for the position of Group Leader at SiS Youth Home Brättegården. As a Group Leader, you contribute to a safe and secure environment for both placed children and young people, as well as staff. This autumn, we are opening a new unit for intake and needs assessment (Intake and Needs Assessment Unit - I&NA), and we are therefore seeking a Group Leader for this unit.
On the I&NA unit, the focus is on stabilizing the young person's situation and well-being, as well as breaking down socially destructive behaviors such as criminality or substance abuse. Since the I&NA unit is often the girls' first contact with compulsory care, there is a strong emphasis on safety-based and relationship-building work to identify patterns that need to be addressed in acute situations to best support the girl.
As a Group Leader, you work actively in the operational care and treatment work on the unit. You are responsible for planning, operationally leading, and distributing daily tasks. You act as a role model and promote work that is legally secure and in accordance with current guidelines, methods, and set goals. You keep the unit manager regularly updated on issues affecting the work environment, care environment, or operational deficiencies. Introducing and mentoring new employees is also part of your role. You are part of a team with the unit manager and a treatment secretary, collaborating closely to achieve good results.
Qualifications
To thrive and succeed as a Group Leader, you are motivated by working with and helping people in vulnerable situations. The operational work and interaction with young people are your primary focus. You are skilled at planning, organizing, and prioritizing work effectively, and you communicate clearly. At the same time, you are attentive, affirming, and good at building relationships with both young people and colleagues. You have a professional approach, good collaboration skills, and the ability to understand others' perspectives. The work can be challenging and requires you to remain stable and calm even in stressful situations.
You must also have:
- A university degree of at least 180 higher education credits with a focus on social sciences, care sciences, or behavioral sciences.
- Several years of merit-worthy work experience from SiS or another organization focused on care, treatment, and security, such as social services, healthcare, prison services, or other relevant activities.
- Good proficiency in Swedish, both written and spoken.
At SiS, we value good leadership. This means that as a leader, you take responsibility for the whole, act as a good role model, drive development, promote collaboration, and are clear in your communication. Read more about our leadership approach at SiS (https://www.stat-inst.se/jobba-hos-oss/medarbetarskap-och-ledarskap/).
We want you to grow and develop in your professional role! As a Group Leader, you will receive substantial leadership development and valuable knowledge and experiences to continue developing your leadership skills within SiS.
Employment
The position is a permanent full-time employment, starting with a six-month probationary period. The start date is by agreement, but since the unit is expected to open in September, a start date in mid-August is desirable.
The position includes office hours and on-call duties outside of office hours.
As a government employer, a number of benefits are included. Read more about these at SiS (https://www.stat-inst.se/jobba-hos-oss/formaner/).
Application
Register your application in our recruitment tool by June 14, 2026. Grades certifying your university degree (at least 180 credits in social, care, or behavioral sciences) must be attached to the application.
Tests and work samples may be included in the recruitment process.
Interviews will be conducted on an ongoing basis, so do not wait to apply!
