Make a difference. Every day.
We are looking for you who want to contribute to a great workplace where we provide the best possible care for acute surgical patients based on a person-centered approach.
The Surgical and Gastroenterology Department at Skåne University Hospital (Sus) includes surgical and gastroenterological activities in Lund and Malmö, as well as surgical activities in Landskrona. We provide acute, specialized, and highly specialized care with both regional and national assignments. Approximately 790 employees work within this department.
Surgical Wards 1 and 2 is a large unit providing high-quality care for acute surgical patients, offering both preoperative and postoperative care. In September, we moved into NSM (New Hospital Malmö) and now work in completely new facilities. The unit has 49 care beds distributed across Surgical Wards 1 and 2, and all staff rotate between both wards. The ward's interdisciplinary team includes nurses, nursing assistants, doctors, nurse managers, specialist nurses, advanced specialist nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and medical secretaries. Pharmacists, social workers, and dietitians are also attached to the ward. In daily work, there is close support from unit managers. We offer a family-like workplace where we care for each other, have a high ceiling, and are quick to laugh. The atmosphere on the ward is characterized by openness and tolerance, where we help each other across boundaries.

Responsibilities
As a nurse on the ward, you follow the nursing process from admission to discharge, meaning you perform assessments, examinations, and evaluate conditions to then follow up and plan for discharge. The responsibilities also include preoperative preparations, providing postoperative care, handling medical technical equipment, and other common tasks for a nurse on an acute surgical ward. In addition to direct patient work, all employees on the ward are involved in building, developing, and improving care at the unit.
We offer an individualized introduction program that spans your first year with us, with regular follow-ups by both the manager and the nurse manager to ensure that you, as a new nurse, feel secure in your professional practice. The introduction program also includes a training wheel with lectures on surgical care every other week and internships at other units such as our outpatient clinic, emergency department, ICU, operating room, and endoscopy unit to get a comprehensive picture and deeper understanding of what our surgical patients go through during their care. In addition to the training wheel, internal lectures within the department are offered, as well as case studies and other lectures on the ward. We also offer nurses training in inserting midline catheters. In addition to our own introduction program, we encourage newly graduated nurses to apply for the clinical base year.
On the ward, we use a preference schedule submitted via MultiAccess, giving you great opportunities to influence your own schedule. You work 5 weekends over a 13-week period.
The position involves night shifts, but working hours can be scheduled during the day or night, as well as weekdays and holidays. If you work 100% night shifts, you work 32 hours/week.
Qualifications
We are looking for you who want to work with acute patients within surgery. You are committed to your profession as a nurse and want to actively participate in the ward's way of working and development. You share your experience and competence, whether you are new to your role as a nurse or have extensive experience. Everyone is important on this unit!
The position requires that you are a licensed nurse with eligibility to practice in Swedish healthcare. Proficiency in Swedish at least level C1 according to the Council of Europe's scale is a requirement.
