Mechanical Engineer specializing in HVAC
SAAB ABBlekinge län, Karlskrona
Previous experience is desired
Driven by seeing your ideas come to life? Welcome to our exciting and technology-intensive world.
The HVAC & Auxiliary Systems section is responsible for heating, ventilation, fire fighting, and all water-based systems on board. You will join a group with deep competence, great engagement, and a drive to move forward. We offer exciting and varied work with marine platforms such as surface combatants, mine countermeasures vessels, and world-class staff and logistics ships. We also place great emphasis on maintaining a good balance between work and leisure.
Your Role
In your role as a Systems Engineer, you are involved in the entire lifecycle of systems, from requirements analysis and product development to detailed design, commissioning, and verification. You create the system architecture based on customer requirements and functional analyses. You refine and follow your systems through the system development process up to the verification of functionality on board. Naturally, your system must be able to interact with other systems, which requires close collaboration with other departments. This is followed by recurring maintenance and upgrades throughout the ship's lifetime. The work is complex, cross-disciplinary, highly varied, and requires both a holistic view and an eye for detail.
You can be a newly graduated or experienced engineer in this role – your personal qualities weigh heavily. We are looking for the puzzle piece that makes us stronger and confidently expect that you want to develop into a superstar in auxiliary systems through good teamwork, various projects, and world-class products.
Main Responsibilities
- Driving the development and ensuring functionality for one or more systems for surface ships.
- Requirements analysis, system definition, reports, and calculations.
- Managing internal and external stakeholders of the project.
- Supplier management and deep involvement in the procurement process.
- Performing system tests and verification on board marine surface ships.
- Business travel related to delivery tests, sea trials, and verification work.
Your Profile
We are looking for an engaged, curious person with an openness to broad system applications of mechanics and thermodynamics. You enjoy working in teams and look forward to becoming the go-to person for advice regarding your systems and area of expertise.
To succeed in the role, you need to be a careful yet creative problem solver who can balance complex technical solutions as well as simple, manual, and reliable ones. This means you are good at solving problems with simple methods.
The role also involves moderating and taking into account feedback from internal and external stakeholders, as well as collaborating well with colleagues and having good communication skills. The role suits you if you constantly want to develop and have strong, humble self-leadership. You don't need to know everything; further development is provided within the scope of your work.
Requirements
- At least a University degree in Mechanics, Energy Systems, or Process Technology.
- Professional level in Swedish and English, both spoken and written.
Meritorious Knowledge/Experience
- Background in the Swedish Armed Forces, FMV, or other Saab companies.
- Nautical Engineering degree.
- Experience in system design and system development.
- Knowledge of CBRN protection, cooling water systems, fire extinguishing, or ventilation systems.
- Knowledge of standards and regulations for ship classification, e.g., DNV/SOLAS/MARPOL.
- Procurement processes and handling interfaces in complex projects.
- Commissioning of systems, tests, and verifications.
- Leadership roles professionally or in leisure time.
- CAD 3D modeling (Aveva Marine, Engineering, and E3D).
The workplace is in Karlskrona. Business travel occurs; a driver's license is required.
The position requires you to undergo and pass security clearance according to current regulations. For positions where Saab requires security classification, this may, in some cases, entail citizenship requirements.
Please note that we work with ongoing selection and that the position may be filled before the final application date has passed.
