University Lecturer in Social Work
We are looking for you who have a PhD in Social Work and wish to contribute to developing teaching and research at Marie Cederschiöld University College.
The Department of Social Work offers education at undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels. We host one of Sweden's oldest social work programs, admitting 90 students every autumn semester. In addition, we offer two master's programs: one specializing in violence in close relationships and a Health and Medical Social Worker program.
Research at the department is conducted under the theme "Social Work for Social Justice," primarily within three priority areas: Children, Youth, and Violence, Family Caregiving, and Disability. In addition to these profile areas, the department also conducts studies on civil society and social work, voluntary social work, international perspectives, and substance abuse.
We have a doctoral program in Social Work with several active doctoral candidates.
Your Responsibilities
As a University Lecturer, you are expected to:
- Conduct teaching at undergraduate and advanced levels.
- Conduct research.
- Work to secure external research funding for the department.
- Carry out quality assurance work and administration of education.
- Contribute to developing national and international collaborations, both with academia and the surrounding society.
- Support a collegial and inclusive environment through presence and teamwork.
The scope for research and/or subject development is normally 20 percent of working time.
Qualifications
Requirements:
- A PhD in Social Work or another related field, provided the research is relevant to Social Work.
- A degree in Social Work (Social Worker).
Assessment Criteria
When hiring, we will place special emphasis on documented scientific, pedagogical, as well as leadership, development, and collaboration skills, according to the university's regulations for lecturers.
We are looking for a person with a solid background in Social Work who wants to contribute to developing the subject in both teaching and research. Professional experience in Social Work is therefore meritorious. We seek a person who is receptive and has good teamwork skills. You plan and organize work in an independent and responsible manner. You have excellent ability to express yourself orally and in writing in both Swedish and English.
Scientific Competence:
- Visibility and anchoring in the scientific community.
- Breadth, depth, and originality of research.
- Relevant scientific publications linked to the content of the position.
- Clear research line and experience in applying for and obtaining external research funding.
Pedagogical Competence:
- Ability to vary teaching methods and examination forms based on the nature of the subject.
- Ability to contribute to the development of learning environments, teaching materials, and course literature.
- Scientifically well-founded approach to teaching and learning in higher education.
- Experience in individual supervision of degree projects at a relevant level.
- Ability to lead and organize pedagogical activities.
- Commitment to pedagogy and subject specialization.
- University-level pedagogical education of at least 15 credits or equivalent competence.
Leadership, Development, and Collaboration Competence:
- Ability to lead and develop education and research.
- Teamwork skills within academia and in relation to society at large.
- Experience in pedagogical leadership roles, e.g., course responsibility at a relevant level.
Terms of Employment and Application
As an employee at Marie Cederschiöld University College, you are offered flexible working hours, the possibility of long consecutive summer leave, a pension plan, and access to various staff benefits. Your workplace is located at the Ersta campus on Södermalm in Stockholm.
The position is a permanent appointment (full-time, 100%) with a probationary period.
Start date: January 1, 2027, or by agreement.
