About the position

We are looking for a reliable and attentive companion for a 19-year-old young man living near Slussen, who has a mild intellectual disability and speech difficulties. The assignment aims to strengthen his independence and create an active leisure time through shared activities. He has a strong interest in participating in society, which can include everything from walks, coffee breaks, and museum visits to playing billiards. Accompaniment to cultural school may also be relevant. As a companion, you plan activities together, where you present options clearly so that he can make his own choices.

Since speech difficulties are present, a sensitive approach and a good ability to interpret body language and facial expressions are required. You need to have patience, allow time for communication, and offer support in social interactions without taking over. The goal is for you to contribute structure and security that helps him grow and handle situations more independently.

We are looking for someone who is responsible and has a pedagogical mindset. The client prefers a female applicant of a similar age, but young men are also encouraged to apply if their personality and chemistry fit. The working hours are scheduled as follows:

The time is used flexibly according to agreement; time is usually used on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The length of shifts varies depending on the activity, but meetings are often 1.5–4 hours long.

About you

We are looking for someone who enjoys working with people and can put themselves in the shoes of other individuals' needs. Furthermore, you should be sensitive, proactive, solution-focused, and engaged, as personal suitability is highly valued. The client has previously had female companions but is open to all applicants. We would prefer that you are close in age to the client to share similar interests.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Good knowledge of Swedish is necessary to support the client in social interactions and to interpret the environment correctly.

MERITS:

• Previous experience as a personal assistant, supported living worker, companion, or substitute, or equivalent experience, is highly meritorious.

Employment level: 8.4% of full-time – 14 hours per month.

Due to the fact that the position may involve solo work, night work, and tasks that according to the Swedish Work Environment Authority's regulations (AFS 2012:3) cannot be performed by minors, you must be at least 18 years old.

If you wish to work with children and young people under 18, you need to provide an extract from the criminal record. It is important to order the extracts in good time, as the Police's processing time may vary. Due to a legislative change effective March 1, 2026, the register control is expanded to include both extracts from the criminal record and extracts from the suspicion register.
