We are now looking for a University Lecturer in Physics with a focus on Physics Education Research who wants to help develop and strengthen our research and education in physics and astronomy. You will work within the research program for physics education at the Department of Physics and Astronomy.

Our workplace at the Ångström Laboratory includes national and international laboratories, research infrastructures, and competence centers for research, offering a unique working environment. Our researchers work in all areas of physics and astronomy, from theoretical physics and particle physics to astronomy and space physics, as well as physics education research. You will join the Division of Physics Education Research. The division conducts outstanding research in physics and astronomy education at the university level.

Field of Study

The Physics Education Research program at Uppsala University focuses on questions concerning learning and teaching in physics and astronomy at the university level, with the main aim of generating new theoretical and practical knowledge. This implies in-depth knowledge of physics and astronomy both as research and education, as well as didactics in terms of theoretical, philosophical, and methodological foundations. The research within the program in Uppsala has received significant international attention through its contributions to theoretical and methodological advances in physics and astronomy education research. Recently, these contributions have focused on three areas: representations as a function of social semiotics, qualitative investigations of learning challenges such as understanding large and small spatial and temporal scales, and how teaching and learning processes can be modeled and understood using complexity theory. Current new areas explore how to optimize the education of future physics teachers and investigate the use of information and communication technology in physics, particularly generative AI and Visual Language Models (VLMs).

Responsibilities

You will work with:

• Research: Research in physics and/or astronomy education research, supervision and teaching at the doctoral level, as well as teaching at undergraduate and advanced levels. Research within the holder's special area. Information on research and development and participation in the planning of research projects. Publication of research results in internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals and presentation at leading international conferences, as well as actively applying for and securing external research funding from national and international funding bodies and/or through interdisciplinary collaborations.
• Teaching: Teaching includes course responsibility, course administration, and supervision of doctoral students, and involves responsibility for the education of future physics teachers and didactic development within the department. Teaching is to be conducted in both Swedish and English. If you initially cannot teach in Swedish, Swedish language training to achieve this competence will be included in your duties.
• Administration: Participate in the general academic work at the Department of Physics and Astronomy. This includes serving on committees, taking on responsibilities beyond your own research and teaching duties, participating in the evaluation and development of teaching and research tasks, solving tasks together with colleagues, and helping and giving feedback to colleagues.
• Keep up to date within your field of study and follow societal developments relevant to your work at the university.
• Contribute to collaboration with society at large.
• Collaborate with colleagues to ensure a healthy and supportive working environment.

About the Position

The position is permanent with a probationary period of 6 months. The position is full-time. Start date: January 1, 2027, or as agreed. Location: Uppsala.
