Description of the Doctoral Project:
The research project concerns heart disease in dogs. More specifically, the project will focus on myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD) in dogs, which is the most common heart disease in dogs. A significant part of the work involves phenotypic characterization of the disease using various clinical methods, although laboratory components may occur to a limited extent. The project is also a collaborative effort with other international research groups.
Responsibilities:
The employment entails conducting a doctoral education equivalent to 4 years of full-time studies under supervision. This includes planning and conducting the research project, data collection and processing, statistical analysis, scientific writing and publication in international journals, as well as oral and written presentation, including popular science communication. For the doctoral degree, the education must also include at least 30 university credits in the form of doctoral courses.
The practical work in the project involves contact with dog owners and veterinarians, practical handling of dogs, and participation in clinical studies. Some laboratory components may occur to a limited extent.
Since the Department of Clinical Sciences provides animal healthcare, the employment will include clinical small animal healthcare, and the total duration will be extended so that the doctoral education totals 4 years. Unconventional working hours may occur. Teaching may be included in the employment but to a limited extent.
Qualifications:
You are a licensed veterinarian with a master's degree.
Additionally, you are required to have English skills equivalent to a passing grade in English B/6 from Swedish upper secondary school.
Your Background:
For this position, the following are required:
- A veterinary degree with eligibility to practice veterinary medicine in Sweden at the time of the start of employment
- Good ability to express yourself in speech and writing in Swedish and English
Clinical competence in small animal healthcare, preferably with additional training in the form of a specialist program, is meritorious. Teaching and research experience is also meritorious.
About Us:
The Department of Clinical Sciences (KV) is a department with just over 350 employees. We are responsible for, among other things, the majority of the clinical education within the veterinary program and clinically oriented research on all animal species, as well as the veterinary technician education.
Within the subject of internal medicine, small animals, basic education and research in medicine are conducted with a special focus on dogs, cats, and other small animals.

Form of Employment and Salary:
Employment as a doctoral student (4 years of education).
The salary for the doctoral employment follows the local collective agreement with fixed salary steps.

100% or as agreed.
Location:
Uppsala.
