University Lecturer in Social Work with a focus on Children, Youth and Family

The Department of Social Work is part of the Faculty of Social Sciences at Uppsala University. The department employs approximately 41 people, the majority of whom are professors, lecturers, and doctoral students.

The department is responsible for the social work bachelor's program, master's programs, doctoral education, and research in social work. The department will also teach social work in the police program starting at Uppsala University in Spring 2027. The department is in an expansion phase and therefore needs to recruit additional lecturers.

This position is based in Uppsala. Social work is both a professional practice and the scientific discipline that forms the knowledge base for social workers. The social work program is a generalist education providing broad knowledge in social work as well as scientific theory and methods. The studies aim to educate social workers with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to work within the field of social work practice. Concepts such as the human being, well-being, social welfare, help and support, and life context are central to the education, and a holistic view of the human being is emphasized.

Responsibilities

The position includes teaching, examination, research, and administration. Teaching is primarily at the basic and advanced levels, but teaching at the doctoral level and commissioned education may also occur. Teaching includes course responsibility, course administration, course development, and supervision. The focus of the position is social work, with a special emphasis on social perspectives on children, youth, and family. Teaching will also cover other areas within the department's educational fields at the basic and advanced levels, based on the applicant's competence and the department's needs.

Responsibilities also include actively applying for external research grants and following developments within the subject area and other societal developments relevant to the teacher's work at the university and the Department of Social Work. The holder of the lecturer position is expected to actively contribute to the department's development regarding both education and research, as well as collaboration with the field of social work.

Qualifications

To be eligible for employment as a university lecturer, one must have a doctoral degree or equivalent scientific competence, demonstrated pedagogical skill, the ability to collaborate, and otherwise meet the suitability requirements necessary to perform the duties well.

For this position, a degree in social work is a mandatory requirement.

It is required that the pedagogical skill, scientific competence, and professional competence are relevant to the subject content of the employment, social work with a focus on children, youth, and family, and the tasks included in the employment.

Eligibility requires documented ability to teach in Swedish and English.

About the employment: The employment is permanent. The extent is full-time. Individual salary setting applies. Start date: 2026-10-31 or by agreement. Location: Uppsala.
