SiS Youth Home Bärby, located outside Uppsala, receives non-compulsory school-age boys with psychosocial issues as well as criminality and substance abuse.

We welcome youth who are in problematic and tough life situations. Many have negative experiences of school and low confidence in their own abilities. As a teacher with us, you work with these students and you get a unique chance to awaken their desire to learn and make them proud of themselves. Teaching takes place in small classes, allowing you ample time for each student. You always start from individual needs and build trusting and professional relationships that make the youth feel secure in school.

Bärbyskolan constitutes a separate unit within the institution where we collaboratively plan, teach in smaller teaching groups, evaluate, and develop the school work at the institution. Teaching at Bärby is both at high school and primary school levels, with most students aged between 16 and 20 years. The educational activities within SiS follow the same regulations as the rest of the school system, except that necessary deviations in teaching may occur with consideration to the student. Bärbyskolan is responsible for the education of all enrolled youth regardless of issues or placement form. All youth residing at the youth home should receive the education they need and are entitled to. We work closely with the youth and maintain a positive spirit in both work and relationships. The teachers both teach and have a mentoring responsibility for the students.

We are now looking for several substitute teachers to join our substitute pool. The tasks include teaching and supervising students. Additionally, documentation, collaboration with other professionals at Bärby and other institutions, external stakeholders, and development work will be part of the job.

As a substitute at SiS, you will undergo a tailored introductory training to prepare you for your role.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who are a teacher, training to be a teacher, or have experience from work where you have taught. The tasks often include planning and following up on teaching as well as documenting in our student administrative system.

Your personal suitability is key to life-changing transformation. Therefore, you need to have a good ability to create engagement and participation. Equally important is that you have a solid positive view of humanity, great empathetic ability, and can build good relationships. You adapt your communication based on the situation and are happy to share your knowledge with colleagues.

Employment:

The position is a substitute employment, and you will be part of Bärby school’s substitute pool. Start date according to agreement.
