The Central Hospital of Kristianstad is the emergency hospital for northeastern Skåne. Here, qualified emergency care is provided around the clock by competent and dedicated staff. The hospital offers residents in the catchment area care with short waiting times across all specialties.

We now welcome a nurse to the infection department, which is a well-functioning acute care unit where we primarily provide care to the population of northeastern Skåne. In the infection area (VO), there is also a clinic and a needle exchange program. The infection department investigates and treats patients with complicated infections as well as patients with infections requiring isolation. We have twenty-two isolation rooms and the capacity for four monitoring spots for more severely ill patients. As a new employee, you will receive training in infection care over three years.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a nurse with us, you will have the opportunity to work closely with patients. Together with the team, you will be responsible for ensuring that patients receive the basic and specific care required. At the infection department, the tasks are varied, but involve a lot of medication, different treatments, acute examinations, and medical technology equipment.

You will care for, treat, and investigate patients with various diagnoses and symptoms, such as sepsis, pneumonia, tuberculosis (TB), gastrointestinal infections, wound infections, COVID-19, tropical diseases, and multi-resistant bacteria (MRB). Most of our patients come to us acutely and require close monitoring and may need oxygen treatment with high-flow nasal cannula (HFNO), used in acute respiratory failure.

After a four-week introduction, you will join one of our three teams, where you, together with doctors and nursing assistants, will be responsible for seven to eight patients. During the day, there is an experienced nurse who acts as a runner and assists all teams, especially supporting and training new staff. During the evening shift, four nurses work, three of whom have patient responsibility, while the fourth handles incoming phone calls, performs point interventions, changes IV lines, admits new patients, and retrieves patients from the intensive care unit (ICU). The infection department often engages in change and improvement work, where you will have the opportunity to help drive the development of care and routines in the department. It is important for us to harness the motivation of our employees for both personal and operational development.

For some time now, we have been able to provide intermediate care in the infection department. If needed, we can care for the patient with staff who have training and experience in this area. Our nurses place midlines and PICC lines. There is also the opportunity to take blood gases and analyze them on-site.

QUALIFICATIONS

We welcome you who are a licensed nurse with the authority to work in Swedish healthcare. Language skills in Swedish at least at level C1 according to the Council of Europe’s scale are required. We consider experience in isolation care and/or training in infectious diseases or intermediate care as merits. It is also an advantage if you have supervisor training.

We are looking for someone with an interest in infection and isolation care who is calm, stable, and secure in their professional role. You also have good organizational skills while being able to prioritize your work when an acute situation arises. Furthermore, you have a patient-focused approach, treating patients with humility and respect. We place great importance on personal suitability.
