Make a Difference. Every Day.

The Infectious Diseases department provides specialized healthcare in the field of infectious diseases in both Malmö and Lund. The operation includes both inpatient and outpatient care.

The Infectious Diseases Unit 2 in Malmö has 14 inpatient beds, including 2 intermediate care beds, which means a care level for patients with threatening or already developed organ dysfunction where organ-supportive treatment may be needed. In the department, we also care for, investigate, and treat patients with many different types of infectious diseases. Examples of this can include sepsis, pneumonia, endocarditis, and tuberculosis. An important part of the mission is also the function as a respiratory care unit where patients with respiratory failure due to lung diseases and neurological diseases are taken care of.

This autumn, we will start nursing councils based on the Magnet Model, which is a nursing model that Skåne University Hospital has decided to work from. We will also continue our ongoing work with nursing rounds.

We are in the starting blocks to implement the Competence and Service Model (KTM) for nurses, which means a structured development program in five phases that includes training and learning activities in each phase. Each phase is linked to a clear competence ladder where, starting from phase three, there is an opportunity to apply for a position as an advanced nurse.

The department also includes physiotherapists, occupational therapists, pharmacists, medical secretaries, social workers, and dietitians.
