Official Veterinarian at the Swedish Food Agency
Do you want to work with animal welfare and food safety, supported by competent and helpful colleagues? Do you want an employer that invests in sustainable employee engagement and offers secure, favorable working conditions? Welcome to the role of official veterinarian at the Swedish Food Agency!
A Sustainable Employment
The Swedish Food Agency actively works to provide all employees with sustainable employment. We give you a good introduction when you start with us and offer secure working conditions and good benefits. Wellness grants, subsidized massage, a generous number of vacation days, and daytime work without on-call, evening, or weekend shifts are some of these. We want you to feel that it is enjoyable to go to work, and that what you do is important. As an official veterinarian, you contribute to Sweden having good animal welfare and safe food. As a veterinarian at the Swedish Food Agency, you have an independent job, but in difficult decisions and situations, your knowledgeable colleagues are just a call away. Here, you become part of a team where we help and support each other in daily work. Together, we make a difference!
A Societal Important Mission
As an official veterinarian, you contribute to Sweden having good animal welfare and safe food. In your work, you are responsible for the inspection of live animals and post-slaughter inspection. You work to detect any deficiencies in animal welfare by reviewing the animals coming to the slaughterhouse and how the company's employees handle the animals. You ensure that the animals are healthy at both individual and herd levels and assess whether the meat from the animals can be approved as food. You may also work with inspection and auditing of food companies, primarily slaughterhouses, and export control.
As a public authority representative, you have an important mission towards the entrepreneur. You have a control function but should also act as a support and facilitate for the entrepreneur to do the right thing. You do this by informing about what good animal welfare means, about the animals' needs and species-specific characteristics, and by helping to create an understanding of hygiene and food safety in food production. The role also includes authority reporting and administration as well as some travel.
Your Competencies
To work as an official veterinarian with us, you must have a Swedish veterinary license or a veterinary license from another country approved by the Swedish Board of Agriculture for professional practice in Sweden.
You should also have a B driver's license, good knowledge of Swedish, and be able to understand and communicate in English. Good administrative skills and strong written Swedish skills are also highly valued for this position.
As a person, you need to be flexible, punctual, efficient, and able to make well-founded decisions and initiatives. You have high personal maturity with the ability to reflect on your own strengths and areas for development and can see and contribute to the whole. You dare to make the necessary decisions in consultation with your colleagues and manager. You have good collaboration skills and help selflessly where needed. You keep yourself updated on the latest in your field of knowledge and are happy to share your knowledge and experience. At the same time, you are open to learning from others. It is together with your colleagues that you succeed and develop. Relevant and updated experience from slaughter control and export control is an advantage.
Conversations in meetings with entrepreneurs and in contact with other stakeholders are also part of the job, which requires you to be clear, professional, and attentive in your communication while being confident in your authority role. We will place great emphasis on personal suitability.
