Job Responsibilities
We are now seeking an Assistant Professor for the Department of Building Technology, Energy Systems, and Environmental Science.
An appointment as an Assistant Professor is a time-limited merit-based position for at least four and at most six years according to the Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 4, Section 12 a. The purpose of the appointment is to develop independence as a researcher and to qualify both scientifically and pedagogically to meet the requirements for a position as a university lecturer.
As an Assistant Professor, you are expected to work with both research and teaching to ensure professional development into an independent researcher and teacher, which is necessary for eligibility for promotion to university lecturer.
The main job responsibilities include:
- Research and Development: You participate in and lead research projects within the main area of building technology. The role also includes contributing to the development of the research environment, including interdisciplinary collaborations.
- Applying for external research funding: You actively participate in the work of seeking external research funding for projects and research programs, in collaboration with other universities, research institutes, and industry, both nationally and internationally.
- Education and Supervision: You teach at the undergraduate and advanced levels in areas such as architecture, building technology, building materials, building construction, geotechnics, and other courses related to the main area of building technology. You contribute to the development of educational programs and courses, including integrating research into teaching. Your responsibilities also include supervising theses in building technology.
- Collaboration: The work includes building and strengthening relationships with external stakeholders, such as companies, the public sector, and other universities, to contribute to societal development and the application of research results.
- Subject Development: You work strategically to develop the subject area of building technology at the University of Gävle, aiming to position the institution as an important player in the field.
The place of employment is Gävle, and most of the working hours are located on campus, where you work closely with colleagues, students, and external partners.
Qualifications
To be employed as an Assistant University Lecturer, you must have:
- A PhD in building technology or a related field. Primarily, this should be for positions where the PhD was obtained no more than five years before the application deadline, see the Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 4, Section 4 a.
- Completed higher education pedagogical training equivalent to at least 5 weeks of full-time studies or otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge.
- Experience in pedagogical activities including planning, execution (teaching and examination), evaluation, and development of courses/programs.
- Documented experience and knowledge in CAD, BIM, and FEM.
- The ability to independently initiate and drive research of high scientific quality, published in international journals.
- The ability to express yourself well in both spoken and written Swedish and English.
