About Us:

The Church of Sweden in Jönköping, part of the Diocese of Växjö, is a dynamic and growing congregation that reflects the development and change of the city.

With an annual population growth of nearly 2000 residents and a municipality aiming to reach 200,000 residents in the long term, our congregation is in constant motion. This development affects not only our residents but also the business community, associations, and the role of the Christian congregation in the city. We operate in a context where our ten churches are organized into three geographical parish areas, and we run three preschools, family counseling, conversation and diaconal reception services. We are present in the hospital, at the university, and in the correctional system, and we are constantly seeking new creative ways to be present in the city's emerging areas. The funeral service is active in four operational areas.

In the Jönköping parish area west, we are now looking for a deacon with a heart for children, youth, and young adults. Here, you will work in a vibrant congregation where meeting people is at the center. With us, you will help create contexts where faith, hope, and community can grow.

You will move between different environments where the church is close to people's lives. In Sofiakyrkan, right in the center of Jönköping, you will meet people in the pulse of the city. In Bymarkskyrkan and the Strandängen district, in the middle of a residential area, there is proximity to families, children, and everyday community. And in Järstorps kyrka, where the countryside begins, you will encounter tranquility, nature, and people living close to the rural community. Together, these places form a warm and vibrant whole where the church is present in people's daily lives.

About the Position

As a deacon with us, you will particularly work with children, youth, and young adults. An important part of the mission is to be a deacon in confirmation work and camps. There are great opportunities to contribute with presence, conversation, and security.

You will also meet people in other life situations. The position includes pastoral conversations, leading services in our elderly homes and in the church. You will have the opportunity to help create open and inclusive meeting places for people of all ages within the parish area.

An important part of the mission is to work together with volunteer staff. We want to be a congregation where more people have the opportunity to contribute their gifts, and where you as a deacon encourage, guide, and help volunteers grow into tasks and responsibilities.

As a deacon, you will be close to people in both joy and difficulties. You will be part of and collaborate with an engaged team.

We are looking for someone who:

• is an ordained deacon in the Church of Sweden or in training to become a deacon in the Church of Sweden
• has a warm commitment to children, youth, and young adults
• enjoys working in a relationship-building and present manner
• sees the value in building community together with volunteers
• wants to be part of a creative and collaborative team
• carries the church's faith with openness, sensitivity, and hope
