Your Responsibilities

As a postdoctoral researcher at ASC, you will work within the research field of ‘Aging and Work’ in collaboration with RELATE - Research Center for Return to Work Later in Life, which develops new knowledge and innovative solutions for a sustainable working life in an aging population. The work is conducted in close collaboration with a professor in Aging and Elderly Care and other researchers at ASC involved in the center. Additionally, the postdoctoral researcher will develop and conduct further research in the area of “Aging and Work.” As a postdoctoral researcher, you will primarily conduct research. Teaching may also be included in the responsibilities, but no more than one-fifth of the working time.

Your Qualifications

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctoral researcher, you must have a PhD or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a PhD. Your degree must have been awarded no later than at the time the employment decision is made.

It is advantageous if your degree was awarded no more than three years before the application deadline for this position. If there are special reasons, it may be considered for those who obtained their PhD earlier, for example, due to various types of statutory leave.

We are looking for someone with a PhD in aging research, sociology, economics, labor market research, social policy, welfare research, management, or similar fields. You have experience and competence in one or more research areas related to later working life; labor markets; public policy, industry policy, and employer policy; lifelong learning; health and rehabilitation; unemployment; economic exclusion and social inequality.

You should have a particular interest in interdisciplinary research on aging and life courses, work and retirement, especially regarding issues of social exclusion and inequality, labor market and life course policies, as well as social change and transformation processes to conduct research in this area.

Excellent knowledge of quantitative methods and relevant analytical tools, particularly strong skills in analyzing register or survey data from various sources, is required. Documented proficiency in analysis programs such as STATA, R, SPSS, Mplus, or similar is also a requirement.

Excellent proficiency in English, both spoken and written, as well as the ability to work well with others, is required.

Additional Qualifications

Experience in research with mixed methods, particularly with participatory research methods and close collaboration with qualitative researchers, is an additional merit.

Ambition and ability to work in international consortia, in large research networks, and in collaboration with national and international societal actors are particularly meritorious. You are expected to contribute to the discussion on research and analytical concepts to further strengthen the quality of the unit's scientific production in ASC's continued development.

Excellent knowledge of Swedish is advantageous.

You thrive in multidisciplinary research environments and collaborate well, engaging constructively with colleagues both within your research group and across institutional boundaries. You adapt to changing circumstances and are open to new perspectives, which allows you to contribute to innovative projects and manage evolving scientific challenges.

As a person, you have a strong ability to:

  • influence and contribute to the development of projects and/or research in the environment through dialogue and participation
  • be flexible and able to work independently as well as in close collaboration with others
  • be proactive, analytical, strategic, and structured

Your excellent oral and written communication skills promote productive dialogue, knowledge sharing, and the development of common solutions. Your ability to balance independent research work with collaboration, along with your willingness to support and inspire others, contributes to a positive and effective research culture at ASC.
