Temporary Environmental Strategist

We are now looking for a temporary environmental strategist!

Your Responsibilities

In this role, you will be responsible for driving and further developing Umeå municipality's internal environmental work. This involves following up on the municipality's environmental goals and action programs, as well as providing support and advice to the municipality's operations on environmental and sustainability issues. The work includes both strategic and operational efforts, such as coordinating municipality-wide consultation responses and coordinating revisions of action plans and action programs according to the Environmental Code, such as the waste plan. You will also contribute with environmental and climate expertise in the municipality's procurement processes.

An important part of the assignment is to coordinate and collaborate across administrative boundaries and in cooperation with municipal companies. The role also requires the ability to manage the interplay between political governance and the civil service organization.

About You

To succeed and thrive in this role, you need to have good analytical and strategic skills. You are structured and quality-conscious but can also see the bigger picture. As you will primarily have contacts with politicians and civil servants, you need to be attentive, communicative, and have an easy time building good relationships. Furthermore, you also have the ability to inspire and create participation. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

Requirements

• Academic education in a relevant field, such as environmental science, environmental health inspector, social sciences towards sustainable development, or environmental engineering
• Experience in strategic environmental work, such as coordinating goals, strategic action plans, and documents
• Fluent in Swedish, both spoken and written, as well as good knowledge of English

Meritorious

• Experience working in a politically governed organization
• Experience in case handling
• Experience in building networks at local, regional, and national levels
