Special Teacher at the Swedish Prison and Probation Service
The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. Our primary goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will be safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, remand centers, and client transport.
The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is to provide education for children and young people within the framework of primary school, upper secondary school, adapted primary school, and adapted upper secondary school. Teaching takes place in smaller groups in a safe and structured environment and is an integral part of the treatment and support measures offered within the organization. The education aims to create conditions for each student to reach as far as possible in their knowledge development and strengthen their opportunities for further studies, work, and a life without crime.
For the upcoming child and youth departments, we are now seeking a special teacher who wants to contribute to giving young people in vulnerable life situations the opportunity to succeed in school and develop towards a functioning future.
RESPONSIBILITIES
As a special teacher, you will work to identify and remove barriers in the learning environment and contribute to creating accessible and inclusive teaching situations based on the individual needs of the students.
Your responsibilities include conducting educational assessments and evaluations, analyzing students' needs for extra adaptations and special support, participating in the establishment and follow-up of action programs, providing special educational support to students in need of assistance, guiding and supporting educational staff in special educational matters, contributing to the development of learning environments and teaching methods, participating as needed in the interdisciplinary work of student health, and contributing to systematic quality work.
The work is carried out in accordance with the Education Act and applicable curricula.
You will also be part of a national network of special teachers together with colleagues from the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's other child and youth activities. The network contributes to collegial learning, experience sharing, and development of pedagogical work at the national level.
The position is located at the Sagsjön prison.
QUALIFICATIONS
In your role as a special teacher, you are a skilled educator with the will and ability to motivate, inspire, and lead students to achieve their goals. You are clear and engaged in your work and have a good ability to create structure and systematics. The work is carried out both independently and in close collaboration with colleagues, which is why good collaboration and initiative skills are important qualities, as well as the ability to work independently.
It is important to us that you share the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's fundamental values of a humane view of people, respect for the individual, and belief in the individual's will and ability to develop. You are also aware of and understand how background, culture, and group affiliation affect yourself and others. Furthermore, you are expected to contribute to ensuring that everyone is treated equally through your approach. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.
We are looking for someone who has:
- A special teacher's degree with a focus on one of the areas of language, writing, and reading development, mathematics development, or intellectual disabilities
- The ability to express yourself well in spoken and written Swedish
- Good computer skills and experience working with digital support systems
It is an advantage if you have:
- Experience working in the IM program
- Experience working in secondary and upper secondary school
- Experience from adapted school
- Experience working as a special teacher
- Experience working with systematic quality work
- Experience mentoring remotely
- Experience in special educational assessment and mapping
- Experience and knowledge of compensatory aids
